    Default Legion Costs

    Hello,

    I thought it would be a good idea to cover the costs of purchase and upkeep of a Legion in SPQR 6.0. The reason for this is Money is MUCH more tight in 6.0 than in 5.0 and its good to calculate your costs and be prepared for the tough road you have ahead of you. ;-)

    As you can see upkeep is almost double for Post marius units, yes they are better, but more costly. I did this for inflation something that plague Rome through Her history. Also this makes the late game more challenging as you have more provinces and more weath but more upkeep for your empire, this helps remove the steamroller effect. Also you will find in 6.0 that the AI cities will have anywhere from 20,000-40,000 people, This of course is assuming you havent attacked the city too early in the game. So you will always have plenty of Slaves and a challenge with the AI and its armies.

    Also keep in mind that Trade is NOT abundant in 6.0 as it was in 5.0. The larger map makes trade routes different and less available than before. Land routes seem to do the best, and there is no threat of Pirates on land. lol First thing to consider is DO you want MR or should you wait. I found myself slowing down a possible MR in order to utilize my current legions and my economy. Basically 15 Provinces isnt enough to have the amount of legions you can have in PM. There will not be 50 lost and 4000 killed in SPQR 6.0, you will get drained and battles will be costly. Logistics is VERY important in 6.0 as the map is Larger and reinforcements may NOT arrive in time make sure to use Towers and cavalry to check what the enemy is up to or you can be caught off gaurd. Spies and assassin are VERY expensive to recruit and one has to decide whether to have a building, units or an assassin. lol

    Also dominating the Seas is NOT easy in 6.0, Pirates are everywhere and usually require you to have a stong fleet to deal with them. Ship sinks more often in 6.0 because of the 1.5 patch, keep this in mind on invasions. Overall I am writing this based on my campaign playing SPQR 6.0 testing. I also recommend M/M if you are playing with the garrison script, otherwise you may just pull your hair out as you keep losing. Work your way up to the level to play on hard, dont start off the bat or the game can be more fustrating than fun. Of course we all have our style of play and tactics/exploits, this may help you or it may not, only time will tell when SPQR 6.0 is released. There are MANY little surprises in 6.0 that are NOT in any of the previous versions of SPQR, so beware......

    So when do we get to see it, LT? I'm really looking forward to the game on the larger map.

    Also, EB has two really nice scripts to help out the AI. I'm sure you're aware of them, but if not, they are the money bonus per turn and the Population bonus for depleted cities. Combined, these scripts insure the AI continues to put up a fight even when they only have a few cities. They can often get a big cash infusion and buy up a Mercinary army, which is quite good fun.

    So, hurry up, you have fans waiting.....
    This seems to be quite a racist comment. The Guals did a lot more than "wonder around pillaging";
    It's not as if they were a bunch of dirty, stinking, fatherless Huns.

    Dont need those scripts in SPQR, the AI has plenty of population or is 20-40k not enough for every AI city. lol Also the cash isnt needed either, there are plenty of binuses for the AI. EB needed those script because the mod isnt tailored for one faction there for it was the only way to keep the AI going. I tailored SPQR toward Rome.

    Also I dont want to FORCE a player to play with the script it is there for those who want a challenge, not a gameplay requirement.

    Does this mean we will need 48k to upkeep 10 legions in the game post marius??? If so will we ever be able to generate this sort of cash to keep the war machine going late in the game? This maybe be sort of a gameplay killer since we need this sort of legion numbers to confront the gold chevron armies the AI throw at us later in the game :-(

    I quite fancied the ideia of aiming 28 named legions towards the end of the game ;-( will this be possible?

    Yes you can do the math, since you have to have 155 provinces to win the game, by the time you have 50 Provinces you should be able to support alot of Legions. Its just that you will be under heavy fighting which will drain them. Legions cost the same in 5.0 Its just that there is more money in trade etc because of the map. Overall less money is a good thing for SPQR and it makes the choice you do important.

    Lt, how much land would 155 provinces represent? Meaning what would we own if we had 155 provinces?

    Most of the map, or basically all of the roman provinces exculing Scythia and parts of Germany and armenia. You could have a map that really does look like the roman empire in 220AD. lol My goal was to make the player reconquer the empire just like Justinian tried to do later after the fall of the western empire.
