Default Why can't I use armoured general's bodyguards when playing as Macedon?

I just finished my campaign with Macedon for RTW vanilla 1.5 and the whole time I could never upgrade my generals to armoured bodyguards! I was stuck using the standard greek generals bodyguards which btw are the weakest heavy cavalry in the whole game! Yet when playing as the brutii against the Macedonians all of their generals are of the heavily armoured type. Anyone know why I can't train armoured generals for Macedon?

Did the marian reforms occur? It needs to happen for you to get armored generals...

I'm playing as Macedon. So what you're saying is that the A.I needs to have the marian reforms before ANY faction can upgrade to armoured generals or just mine?

If thats the case then I booted the Romans out of Italy before any of their cities could get an imperial palace thus negating the marian reforms for them. I can only hope this is the reason why I was unable to train Macedonian armoured generals.
