Black screen in the middle of the game

I started a new game with Casse and, after a while, my screen got black on the camaign map. The music continued playing but the screen was black and when I opened the task manager, it said the program doesn't respond.

It's a strange problem which I haven't had on any mod or the vanilla game. It only happens on the campaign map, and only with EB. I'm using Jirisys' EB Mega Mod Pack for the Alexander executable. Also, I'm playing on 1920x1080 resolution, which isn't possible for EB without editing the preferences file yourself (so maybe higher resolutions can be buggy with EB?).

Any idea what the problem might be? All other mods work fine, vanilla works fine too, Alex too.

Did your screensaver turn on?
Was it your turn or AI's turn? What are the steps you did just before the screen went black? Is the error reproduce-able?

Turn number doesn't matter, it happens randomly. Screen turns black, I terminate the process, reload the latest save/autosave, game works well for a while, then crashes at a random point of time on the campaign map again. The only pattern there is to it is that it always happens on the campaign map, nowhere else, and it never happened yet before I played a battle.

And no, it's not the screensaver cause I don't use one. As I said, this only happens in EB, none of the other mods or vanilla/expansions.

At the moment of the crash, which position does the camera have on campaign map, which region are you looking at?

Check your graphic drivers and update them if necessary.

Well, the problem is that it isn't always the same steps, but I'll try to explain as well as I can.

The first time it happened was on the campaign map after I loaded a savegame just before a defensive battle. I fought the battle and won, the rebels (against who I fought) finished their turn and my turn started. I wanted to activate the campaign script but as soon as I clicked the "show me how" button, the screen turned black.

Well, not much of an issue, I thought. Maybe it was because I fought a battle before I could activate the script. But no, that was not the problem. I reloaded the autosave at the beginning of my turn and played for a while, fought a battle or two, ended my turn, then it was my turn again and the screen turned black after a while on the campaign map, just like that. I wasn't even doing anything. Not selecitng a town, not opening a menu, not even scrolling - it just went black without any active input from me.

The annoying thing is that there's not really a pattern to it, it happens quite randomly. The only thing I noticed is that it does not happen before I fought a battle, and it does not happen before there has been an enemy turn. How many battles and how many enemy turns is random. But then I don't even know if that is already a pattern - it can be that it's entirely random and I just haven't encountered the problem yet before fighting a battle or ending my turn.

The only regularity is that it happens on the campaign map during my turn. Never in a battle, never while the enemy turns run. Oh and since I'm playing Casse it always happens when I'm in Britain on the campaign map.

Just had the same problem when trying to load a savegame or when trying to start a new campaign, so it's completely random and not connected to anything I'm doing in the game.

I'm going to reinstall the mod and try it without Jirisys modpack, then report back if the problem persists.

This is something one should try to avoid, there is a minimal chance that is screws totally your savegame.

Try to disable campaign map shadows in the options in the main menu, maybe this helps.
If you start a new campaign with Casse and play some turns, do you receive the same crash? Is the same problem there if you start a campaign in Vanilla?

From your description it appears completely random, if the options above don't help I would backup your savegames and go for a complete new installation.

Reinstalled EB, started a game without the modpack, and now the problem is gone. Probably connected to the modpack, or the way I installed it. Vanilla EB is okay.
