When i try to start a campaign i choose my settings then when i click play it takes me back to the singleplayer menu.

Have you tried editing any files? I find this happens when I try editing campaign-related files and screw something up.

exactly the same problem for me here:
- goldversion from DVD (not steam)
- win XP user
- ss 6.4
- no submods
when I choose a faction in campaign menu and click start, Iīm back in the singleplayer menu
when i want to start the ss_setup.exe, i got an error "not enough campaigns or core files missing"
I installed 6.3, at the end i choosed Late campaign. then i installed the patch and did the setup, when I tried to disable the permanent arrows, I got kicked out of the launcher. i was able to start the game, but not a camapign (see above). I tried to start the SS_setup, but got the error above.
no submods, no files edited (donīt know what to do anyway...)

If anyone has this problem use this, apparently its UAC stopping the launcher working.

I have the same problem as mattgoby.
When I try to launch a new campaign, the game return on the singleplayer menu.
I tried the way with UAC but it's a little bit different for me : I have the game on steam, and I have W7. When I go to the "Security", "allow" is already checked for "User-PC/User", it's also grayed and can't change this.
Edit : problem solved by re-install.

Try running the setup as adminastrator.
