    Default Flashing GPU Rom

    Just looking for some advice:

My XFX 9600 GSO kind of caved in yesterday and in turn caused havoc on my machine.

    Long story, short version:

I have reinstalled everything including win xp and successfully, all except the graphics card.

    Now here is the sitrep.

    Power to the card- A.ok
    System recognising the card- A.OK
Windows finding it- NO, in the device manager it says 'Windows cannot start the device- code 10'

Now i have a tech buddy helping and he has suggested i "flash the ROM" as the above problem is indicative of a faulty built in software protocol or some such.

Further i have already gone to TechPowerUp and downloaded all the necessary bits and pieces to accomplish this.
But my hopes are really high about solving this, so i thought i would come the one place that gives me a reality bump when i need it

    so 2 questions...

Is this relatively easy to do?
    and
Has anyone else have to do this and what is the success rate?

+ cookies all round for the helpful peeps.

Expand the story a bit for us please. When you say that your GPU "caved in" - what exactly do you mean? Please describe the details of the problem. And also add what "havoc" happened on your system after the video card failure. Any truly spectacular failures you can describe could help us tell if that card is salvageable or toast.

Here's some helpful reading - Description of Code 10 Related Errors.

Here are some additional questions. How long have you had that card? After the crash did you try reinstalling the video drivers for that card? Was the error caused by you when fiddling with the video drivers?

Lastly, flashing a ROM is not difficult to do but you should have the instructions on hand before you attempt it. I'm assuming that the file you downloaded has a readme or some sort of instruction file attached - correct?

Thanks for your answers. Good luck!

How long have you had that card? Two years.
Was the error caused by you when fiddling with the video drivers?
Nope completely random, no previous errors on the card or its functionality

First game MTW2 (kingdoms mod)- The colours inverted to a VGA negative (all greens, blues and whites) randomly during a campaign move, computer froze and had to reboot.

Second Game FIFA 09-same colour inversion during the menu, pc froze had to reboot.

Third game- COH eastern front same colour inversion while loading the menu, PC froze and had to reboot.

And also add what "havoc" happened on your system after the video card failure. Any truly spectacular failures you can describe could help us tell if that card is salvageable or toast.
After the Coh crash reboot, it encountered a serious error and refused to load XP stating on a command prompt that a critical system file was missing. (.dll)

Formatted everything-->reinstalled Win XP full and up to SP3-->reinstalled all MB drivers and peripherals

Windows is refusing to recognise the GPU or resolve the conflict.

    Tried:
Checked for conflicts with on board VGA adapter, but that isnt being recognized in the device manager.
Installed GPU-Z, registers the board is there and everything is running.
Tried installing various versions of the NVidia driver software with no luck, critical error keeps on occurring that windows doesn't recognize the board.

Also the board is being recognized on every level in the PC except for windows.

Lastly, flashing a ROM is not difficult to do but you should have the instructions on hand before you attempt it. I'm assuming that the file you downloaded has a readme or some sort of instruction file attached - correct?
Thats basically what i was asking, yes i got all the necessary bits and pieces with the manuals i just wanted to establish the ease of it and success rate.
thank you for the response... i will post my results when i finish work today and get some time to do it.

Lmao, good thing it worked out for you. I would've just recommended a driver reinstall.
