What do you mean with "famous"

    You mean heroic victories?

I think he means what are the requirements that result in the crossed swords battle marker on the campaign map.

    I thought so.

I have no idea what the requirements are, but I get the crossed swords marker all the time with auto-resolves. My latest campaign saw maybe 15+ of these across the map. Hannover was a covered in them.

For a famous battle, this is what it requires. In order to have crosses swords that say famous battle etc., you must win a battle thats is against your odds. For example, in Rome Total War, when I used my small Roman force of about 7 units to invade Gaul, I was confronted by an army of soldiers from Gaul with about 20 units. I barely just won, but then after that battle crossed swords appeared and said Winner:Rome Loser: Gaul.

Summary: To get crossed swords win a battle where the ratio of you losing is slim/very slim. When you win, crossed swords will appear, and you have probably just dealt a crushing blow to the enemy.

I'm playing as Prussia now, and I got a few crossed swords in Cleves. It was 20v20 battles, but because the prussian line infantry isn't as good as the french one, especially their morale (while in empire, prussia had the best soldiers..), i got the swords

Unless I'm mistaken, morale is the only stat in which French line inf outdoes Prussian line inf (barring any elite infantry units). The Prussians are slightly better in melee and accuracy / reloading stats.
