hi, ive had a issue for over a year now. the issue is this, i bought a new computer, put windows 7 on it and went yaaaay finaly a decent computer. let me install medieval 2 total war. now to download the patches.... when i went to download the patches i accidently installed #3 partially before the first 2. i say partially because i cancelled the install before it was finished... yet my comp still says its there. now i cannot install any of the patches period because it says its already upto #3. please help if you are able. i have tried sega's tech support with no real help.

You might have to uninstall and reinstall the game so you can install the patches in order.
And as a fellow Windows 7 user, I have to say the game does go a lot smoother, but the laptop shuts itself off whenever it thinks it gets too hot, unlike my XP laptop. Once you get the patches together, the game will be awesome.

Are you going through Control Panel to uninstall and reinstall? I know that CCleaner is useful for taking care of installation problems. After uninstalling, are you deleting the 'SEGA' folder too? Are you going through the registry to clear any references to M2TW or its manufacturers? I can't say I've had this problem with M2TW, but that is usually because I reinstall M2TW after my hard drives are wiped. I'd definitely look into registry references to the patch installations: some programs (like free trials for non-free programs) will leave bits of information here and there that will prevent re-installation of the program after the end of the trial period. CCleaner and other programs can do a good job at removing leftovers after uninstalling.

Be very careful when editing registry values.
EDIT: Use the other suggestions first, this link should be your last resort as you could seriously mess up your PC if you make a mistake.
