    Default Age of Bronze

Has anyone else read this comic adaptation of the Trojan War? If not, I highly recommend it. It is written and drawn by Eric Shanower. What Shanower is doing with Age of Bronze is attempting to tell the story of the Trojan War as if it really happened. So the gods are left out of the story, but oracles and those who claim to be able to use divination are still included in the story. Shanower is not attempting to tell Homer's Iliad in comic form. Instead he has pieced together all of the various plays/stories about the Trojan War chronologically to give a fuller telling of the ages old story. So as an example, he uses Homer's Iliad (of course), Aeschylus' Agamemnon, Apollonius' Argonautica, Berlioz's Les Troyens, Pindar's Victory Songs, etc.
The story is not done yet, Shanower has only completed two graphic novels so far (the story in the second graphic novel ends with the sacrifice of Iphigenia). I have enjoyed the story so far. I'd be curious to here what others feel about this comic.

    Default Re: Age of Bronze

Hey, Decemvir, thanks for the plug. Age of Bronze issue 23 (Part 4 of Book 3) will be on sale Thursday, June 1. This issue focuses on the Trojan royal family as the war looms closer. Hektor returns to Troy with his new wife Andromache, Cressida inadvertently reignites Troilus's passion for her, and the news reaches the Trojans that Kalchas has defected to the Achaeans.

    Best,
    Eric Shanower
