    Default Changes to towns, large towns defences

    What do gamers think of these changes I'm considering;

    First is changes to Towns, I've never liked how defenders had to fire OVER the walls (no line of sight). So i've added a hill just behind the wall so defenders can see attackers. This has a bonus that when the wall falls to rams, defenders will be fighting downhill. Plus it looks like a hill fort.

    I'm also planning changes to large towns US 7th Cavalry fort looking walls, to look more like a bronze age hill fort

    Well, I never had any issues defending my towns, but this seems pretty cool.

    Get the point and it looks good, but wont this be an advantage the player rather than the AI will have use of? And mostly the AI is in a disadvantage anyway haha, poor sods ^^
    And wont it look odd with stone walls?

    I'll only use it on wooden pallisades but you could be right about AI defenders. If the defender is a non-archer unit, it will just stand there and get shot to pieces! AI archer unit will use the hill to it's advantage though.

    I'll need to test this further ..

    IWTE is a winner for me so far

    i would consider trenches as an altarnative then, instead of going up.. go down , it's more natural

    Even more disadvantage for archer units. Normally infantry would sit behind the walls while the archers would sit on top.

    Even so this is pretty intriguing. Have you posted the file anywhere or are you still on the fence? +rep also

    It is possible to place ballistas and siege equipment on walls. There is a way to do this you can find it somewhere on these forums. So there is absolutely no need for ridiculuously looking hills, it will be solved much more professional. Poll fail.

    This edit is only for small towns where the walls aren't walkable. Reading fail.

    In Lorien, to protect Celeborn there are trenches, walls, and huge hill behind, then tree on the top of hill.

    I'm in early design phase, thinking of possible alternatives.

    That's right, no walls that you can accomodate units but i dont see any problems with deploying catapults on raised hill sections behind the walls, just as long as the ground isn't too low and there's enough space, backwards and sidewards, for the catapult to deploy. I might look at that later if someone doesn't pickup the ball before me.

    Pity the AI ,when attacking a settlement, doesn't know how to fill in a trench before moving up siege equipment.

    I believe this to be pretty brilliant idea mate... +rep for putting it out there. I'd rather it not be implemented in big cities with stone walls, then it may be just overkill.
