Default UV coordinates and texture map not lining up in game

In Milkshape and 3ds max the textures look fine and are where they are supposed to be. But in game the textures are not displayed the same, they are shifted. For example the eyes only show half the texture they are supposed to and the rest is just black, as if the UV map for the eyes moved to the left. None of the verts are welded so what could be causing this shift? I would post some pics, but I can't zoom close enough in game to really see it. By the way, when I open the textured model and UV map again it looks as it should, so the UV map is not getting warped.

    Hi alreadyded,

A picture would be still helpful though! Could you send it via e-mail. Your problem sounds pretty odd. In my experience this caused by welded verices but you've stated that those are fine, then maybe something happened during conversion..

Is this a mount unit you're reffering to? which version of GOAT you're using? Use this version for mount/conversion ( http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=2233 )..the previous version pretty much messes up the UV for mounts..

    maybe this helps.

It could be caused by mipmaps. The .dds file (and the texture file) includes smaller versions of your texture: i.e. the base resolution of your texture is 1024x1024 then there will be smaller textures in 512x512, 256x256 and so on. Let's say the camera is close to the model, then it draws the 1024 texture, when you move the camera away it will display the 512 texture and so on.
I assume next to the eye on the texture there are black pixels (in your original resolution file). You can test this by scaling your texture to half dimensions and load it in milkshape. As a result of the scaling there should be the black part in the eye of the model as well. This can be fixed by filling an area around the eye part with white pixels.

have you checked the .norm file? and also the alpha channels?

It seems to be the ms3dImportExport_ver1_3.ms Max Script. When I import and export it messes up the coordinates for the certain parts of the model. It is a mount unit, and I have tried 1.1 of the script as well with the same results. What version should I use, or is there another way? I don't know how to skin in anything other than 3ds Max.

I think you should export your model from Milkshape as an .obj file. Import it into 3dsmax..skin it , make its UV, then export it again(.obj, or fbx ) then import it back to Milkshape and build the file(vertex weighting, naming groups, add comments etc..) and you're done.

    Hope this helps

I thought about that but it is way too much work. Plus I made most of the animations months ago, so I would have to go back and check every vert to see what the old weights should be. Plus I wouldn't be able to test and change the UV maps without re-animating every time. I tried using Lithunwrap as a importer/exporter, but that doesn't work either. I am not the first person to ever UV map a mount in this game, what converter does everyone else use for 3dsMax?

    Hi

This tool could be an alternative solution.

Thanks for the heads up, I will give it a try once I can get it working. The script doesn't want to work for me .
