    Default WWIesque Diplomacy

Has anyone ever noticed that often a game of RTW will play out ending with or at some point having WWIesque diplomacy? What i mean is there will be many many alliances, but through it all there ends up being two major factions, groups, coalition... call them what you want. For example i will be playing as Carthage and will control northern Africa, Spain, and Italy and will be allied to Germania, Gaul, Macedon, Thrace. While my "enemy" will have alliances set with the Ptolemy, Seleucid Empire, Pontus, Sarmatia. I think it is pretty interesting how things always (or often) turn out this way and most often with two super powers leading the alliances.

It usually comes down to three superpowers for me... Egypt, me and one other. The other was actually Thrace on my other campaign, they get really powerful if left alone. Anyway, the third, weakest superpower is usually in between me and the other, so we tear it apart to get at each other. Then all hell breaks loose. The only chance any other factions have for suvival is if they become a protectrate of a superpower.

Egypt always goes toe to toe with me at the end, no matter who i play, the britons also have a good chance of staying around long, they survive, but usually do not build huge empires like the Egyptians

Romans, Egyptians, and Britons are the usual contenders.

I normally get the whole one side vs. the other thing, with me and some allies against one other power factions and its allies. The power faction depends on which way I go with who I am playing, normally it is either egypt or britian or carthage.

Though recently I have been swearing off alliances with the AI so it has been me vs. everyone. That is good fun.

I always have five superpowers with maybe one of them as my allies.
Its usually Egypt, Rome, Britain, Thrace, and Parthia.
It makes sense, because Thrace goes into Sarmatia and Germania, and their cavalry die easily with falxes. Britain has the ability to mass produce cheap units, and overwhelm Gaul and Scandinavia. Rome owns Greece with anti-phalanx warfare, and same against Carthage. Egypt owns the other half of Carthage because they have so many archers and mutilate the phalanx, and also owns most of Seleucia because they suck with a small nation and no money (unless I play them). Parthia has rebels and a weak nation to conquer. Every game it ends the same unless I send assassins to kill Egyptians and Britains, and outnumber Parthia/ Make alliance so Egypt kills them, then kill Egypt
Then its five huge empires going into battle; a power struggle that lasts a long time until I get involved and destroy the AI with their inferior tactics.

It's odd... Parthia usually survives for a long time, even when at war with Egypt. Not only do they survive, but they hold their southern provinces for quite awhile. This is weird, considering they rarely gain any territory and are surrounded by Egypt. Perhaps its because they use the Seleucids as a shield

Yea and Egypt has ubberpop (so their cities advance much more quickly) . the pharos of alexandria wich is a great in the sea, poor selcs cant against parthia and egypt.

Theres a way to change this by changing thte AI of factions in descr_strat to FORTIFIED STALIN wich makes them have great armies and great farms (and since ai is always at war they only relly (sp?) on farms to produce money.
