Default How do you play SS?

I was wondering how other people setup ther games when they played. I am a newcomer to SS and 6.4 is the first build I have played. ( It's freakin awesome btw, completely reinstalled my dusty M2TW copy) I loaded up with savage AI, permanent arrows, permanent watchtowers, longer assim, and limited actv.
For the first time, I tryed playing with BGR, and I love the roleplaying aspect but got my butt kicked by the economy and went into debt.
Thats my main question is how many of you use the BGR and if so (i read the info and manual but am still confused) how do you make money and understadn all those numbers it displays everytime you click the faction shield panel.

If you are new into the mod, better disable most of the options you've ticked. I'd suggest - Lusted AI and Perm Watchtowers only. And then it gets easier.

I am new to the mod but if I disable the BGR mod and realistic recruitment won't it also disable alot of the cool traits and other stuff that comes with SS.
Wondering if there are trait mods and other behind the scenes script that comes with SS anyway, without bgr or rr.

    How do you play btw?

Lusted AI, perm watchtowers, RR on (meaning unticked). And that's it. BGR's traits are too complex for a newcomer, you have to read a wall of text (the guide) for it to understand it and then start playing.
Limited Activities and Longer Assimilation make turns slower so I avoid them.
Also I changed to 2 years per turn - 50th turn heavy mail, yay!!

It's quite easy to do. Go to ...\mods\Stainless Steel 6.4\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign open descr_strat.txt and change the timescale to 2.00. Aging won't change.

I would suggest you don't do this, especially since you are new to SS and have yet to experience the game in it's full glory. The campaign is not designed for this time-scale and to make it work properly you will have to change other things as well, otherwise you will be attacking villages with cannon and musket. This might sound cool, but being able to steamroll the opposition like this makes the game incredibly boring.

If you want to play with heavily armoured troops and/or gunpowder against Peasants you can go wild with Custom Battles. Don't ruin the game for yourself by doing this.

Unit availability is not just a function of time, you also need to have the "technology". In the case of the various Longbows, you need to have the appropriate Archery buildings within the appropriate castles. Part of the game is developing your settlements and, once you figure it out (or get some sound advice), you will be able to differentiate your army from others much, much, sooner.

I'm currently playing as England, and after hammering the Scots the Pope went medieval on my ass and booted me out of the God club. Next thing I know, I have dirty foreigners landing on my shores from wierd and far-flung countries. - Sargon_of_Akkad

I`ll give you my humble advice to shut down permanent arrows until you are not playing on some military supercomputer. At the begining of the campaign it was nice 25-30 FPS during a battles and now it drops to 2-5 FPS especially during prolonged sieges. Really dozens of thousands of arrows. This bringing my comp to the knees.

Just develop some cities for economy then pick 2 of the 3 military buildings and build those in the cities and pick some cities that you use for pure military. These will be the main power houses. Just make sure to have some military buildings in all towns as a end result. I tried using just a few cities to use for military and the rest economy... didn't work 2 well..... Was playing as the HRE on VH/VH and could not fend off The Romans and the Moors... still trying atm... but damn its hard.

I just released an integrated instruction manual for BGRIV/E. Available in most BGR threads.

I haven't started SS yet, still working out a few kinks with Steam. I'm not really a newb at Total War games, but definitely not a pro.

But, I plan to use Savage AI, as Lusted AI sounds a bit too easy/peaceful, at least from the description...Savage sounds more realistic. Still contemplating if I want to use longer assimilation, I may check that too...again, sounds a bit more realistic, and a bit harder.

I'll most likely leave everything else unchecked (including the watch tower one)

I use the default AI, permanent watchtowers and leave in permanent arrows. Ally with as many distant or weak countries as possible to boost rep, and role play my tactics on the battlefield depending on what civ I'm using.

Using France? Charge headlong into enemies with knights whenever possible.
Using Egypt? Careful hit-and-run with cavalry and lots of "pancakes" with heavy cavalry.
Using Turks? Evasive tactics with cavalry and aggressive head-on attacks with jans.

And so forth. Not perfectly realistic, but it adds flavor into the game to have a defined play style.
