Medieval 2: Unspecified Error at launch.

Greetings.

I've been scouring the forum trying to find a solution to this problem, have read a bunch of threads otherwise I wouldn't be posting a new one.

As the title states, I'm having a bit of an issue with getting the game to run. I am running version 1.3 of M2TW on a fresh install, the install package having come from direct2drive.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, re-downloaded the original install package countless times (even reinstalled windows itself), but I still get the same error when I try to launch the game.

"Medieval 2 total war has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit."

The screen does flicker for 3 or 4 seconds before the error finally appears.

1. Have you run Microsoft Update manually to see if it's up to date? 32bit is up to SP3.
2. Have you checked AMD's website for the latest drivers?
3. Have you tried setting your monitor at 1024 x 768?

1. I was doing some research and found out XP 64 bit can only go to service pack 2... Would that be an issue? I have SP1 right now.

2. Drivers are the latest, released 10 days ago.

You're not the only one running XP, 64 bit, and it works on theirs so noreason why not on yours unless the card is too new..

Tried updating to service pack 2, still no dice... I give up... sigh.

Got it working on my laptop from 2006, loads with no problems. That system is running windows xp 32 bit. I used the same install file.

Is it just windows xp 64 bit that's the problem?

It could be. Does direct2Drive pick the install path you do you get to?

If you get to, try C:\Games.
