Default Ok, I'm back and I want a bad ass computer

I posted here like last December or November for advice on getting a savage new computer that could run Shogun 2 on highest settings with ease. Or even the highest quality PC game on the highest quality settings. Something that will chew up and spit out Crysis 2 or be able to play Battlefield 3 with ease when it comes out. So what do I need?

Whats the budget, also do you need things like a monitor and os for example and where are you based to pick a valid vendor

The budget isn't so much of an issue I suppose I can spend up to 2k maybe more. Yes I need a monitor and keyboard. I live in London but I am moving to back to the States in September so I don't want any UK plugs or anything. Also, ordering from an American company isn't an issue online for me because I can put down an American shipping address if necessary.

A killer PC would be a something like a Intel Core i7 2600K with a Prolimatech Megahalems CPU cooler (used in conjunction with 2x 120mm Akasa AK-FN058 Apache fan), 2x GTX560 in SLI/2X 6950's 2Gb in Xfire, 8Gb of 1600Mhz DDR3 ram, Corsair Obsidian 700D full tower case and a 1000 watt PSU. Stick in 2x 120Gb SSD's in RAID 0 and a 1Tb hard drive for storage and it will set you back around about £1900.

If you want to save some money and you don't want to overclock you could get a non K version of Sandy Bridge or even drop down to the 2500K also you could swap out the 2 video cards and get a single GTX580 and get a mid sized tower case. Another option is instead of running SSD's in RAID 0 stick to a conventional hard drive and have a triple monitor eyefintity setup.

Go for that it'l easily handle anything you throw at it, normally cheaper to build it yourself though.

In terms of value AMD's CPU's are a great buy and the 6870 is the best value video card on the market but in terms of outright performance Intel's core i5 and i7 range is quicker and the 560 Ti performance stills right in the middle of the 6870 and 6950. To get into to context though if you owned a Phenom II 965 and overclocked it and paired it with a 6870 you wouldn't that much difference in performance whilst gaming on a PC that had a Core i7 overclocked paired with a 560 Ti.

People are gonna hate, but I did research building various rigs here.

I actually built my last system through them and have had a very good experience. Gamers are snobs, so everyone is going to have their preferences.
To be governed is to be watched, inspected, directed, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, and commanded, by creatures who have neither the right, wisdom, nor virtue to do so. To be governed is to be at every operation, at every transaction noted, registered, taxed, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, admonished, reformed, corrected, and punished. It is, under pretext of public utility, and in the name of the general interest, to be placed under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted, and robbed; then, at the slightest resistance, to be repressed, fined, vilified, harassed, abused, disarmed, choked, imprisoned, judged, condemned, shot, deported, sacrificed, sold, and betrayed; and to crown all, mocked, ridiculed, derided, outraged, and dishonored. -Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

Another option to save money is to buy a barebones system from someplace like newegg and then install the quality components yourself. Not a bad option for someone that doesn't have the full skill to make a system but can do some of their own work.

So I think I will buy a gtx 560 Ti cause the price is very similar to the hd 6870 1gb.

Will you be willing to build it yourself, or will you want the convenience of having it pre-built?

Also, you say you need a monitor, what resolution or screen size do you want? 1080p? Multiple monitors?

I wouldn't have got the 2500k with a H67 based motherboard as your have an overclockeras chips with a non overclocking motherboard.

    Well that's good haha.

So I mean what does that mean exactly? I wanted a different motherboard actually. This one:
ASUS P8H67-M EVO (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

But it's sold out everywhere and I really didn't want to wait. I heard my performance wouldn't really be affected.

I bought all the parts off newegg including a new 30 inch monitor with 1080p and HDMI ports and all that to double as a tv and the total for everything was 2400. Not bad I'd say.

A quick question - are LGA 1156 cooling systems compatible with LGA 1155? I'm assuming that there are no differences in the spacing so it should work. It just caught my eye and I wondered.

As for Freddie's comment - I think he's saying your MoBo doesn't support OC while the CPU does. That would be a bit of a waste.

If you not planning on overclocking your CPU you could have saved some money by buying the 2500 non 'K' version of the CPU however if you are planning on overclocking or are thinking about overclocking somewhere down the line your motherboard doesn't support this.

I'd suggest a better cooler and a better motherboard. That motherboard you linked doesn't support SLI out of the box. That's aside from the obvious overclocking dilemma you've brought up by buying an overclocking CPU but a non overclocking motherboard and cooler. Where will you be buying from?

I've got a couple of newegg links. You seem to be able to buy the best, so there's no budget restrictions on what I'm suggesting.

    Motherboard.

    Cooler.

Aside from that, your planned PC is a beast and a half.

I'd also half recommend getting two HD 6970s instead of GTX 570s if you're willing to go AMD. They are pretty similar as a single card, but in a multi-GPU setup, the HD 6970s pulls ahead and at high or multi-monitor resolutions, the HD 6970s compares with GTX 580 SLI.

What resolution will you be playing on? Dual GTX 570s or HD 6970s would be a waste of money on like a 1440x900 resolution.
