No Pre Battle Speeches

Hello,

i currently experience an problem wich has bothered me for a while now.

After installing the new version (6.4) i have no battle speeches at all (first camaigned as byz, then as danes). The animations for the speech are there (the gerneral raising his sword etc) but the voice is mute, and there is also no subtext, even if i switched it on in the games options.

How can i fix this?

(i suppose it somehow had something to do with applying the german translation to the game at first install, and overwriting that later via setup with the english version)

Firstly welcome to the SS forum.

Go into SS6.3\data\sounds and delete events.dat and events.idx

Then start a new campaign, the game will rebuild these files, hopefully you should have sound

Are You sure that problem already was there while playing the byzantines? They use mediterrean Voice files by default (if i remember right) - and those are there in the german version too. The Danes use eastern_european soundfiles which are missing in the german game version as some others.

Do they have voices on the campaign map? Did You install the translation which was in the 6.4 download or the updated one with the "missing voices" fix? I also know that some (very few) have problems with the missing voices fix - for an (at least for me) unknown reason so far - but they simply have no sound at all. For me and i guess for most others it works as it should.

(Just guessed that You are using the german MTW version)

I have installed SS6.3, and updated to 6.4 afterwards. You are correct: i use the german MTW Kingdoms version, but language has not been a problem in 6.3.

After updating to 6.4 i recognized that i could switch the game via installer to german, and did it. So i had no voices and subtitles for the prebattle speeches throughout 6.4, even after switching back to english for a new danish campaign.

However, the whole rest is ok, both games had effects, voices on the strategic map, events appeared in the right language etc... it's just that the pre battle speeches are mute (missing), and the subtitles, which i turned on to see wether it just was missing sound files, are missing too. Usually there would be some text during a speech too, if switched on.

I did not use any "missing voices" fix by purpose (did not recognize it exists until now ;-)), and its really just the speeches, which are missing.

The subtitles aren´t touched in StSt - those are the vanilla files. I guess the speeches are the vanilla ones too. Just want to say that the translation is save to use. There won´t be any problem relating to it (perhaps some typos).

Can´t understand why You had all voices - they simply aren´t present in the german version....

Hmm won´t be a big help if i say that those voices You are missing are not worth listening? Those ones in Rome were much better. In MTW he just says one or two sentence(s).

I would recommend to use that missing voices fix (via submod manager) and delete those two event files like Navajo Joe recommended. Perhaps having a backup for the files is a good idea if it doesn´t work. The voices fix can be unchecked in the submodmanager to uninstall it - savegame compatible, as all the translations too.
