    Default Hello

Again apologies if this is a common question.

I have the latest Rome Total Realism Mod installed with the v. 1.5 patch. I am trying to set it up where I can edit the city names in game. I came on these forums and did a search and found several topics and a tuturial on how to do this. The problem I am having is that the tuturial and topics all say to the to Program files/Activision/Rome-Total War/Preferences. My problem is, I do not have a preferences either a preferences folder or a text document that I see. What should I do?

Have you run the mod yet? I ask because it gets made automatically by the game. If you haven't run the mod and it should be there. If the issue still persists try seeing if you have a hidden file, ctrl + A generally works well in finding them.

The latest RTR mods require Barbarian Invasion to work. Can you state exactly which mod you have installed...the more details the better.

    Welcome to the forums!

Hello, Yes I have ran ran the mod and have played through it a couple of times. I have did as you said, no hidden files. Does this mod prevent this folder from being created?

The other questions. I do not have Barbarian Invasion installed. However If you install the v. 1.5 patch for RTW, the latest Rome Total Realism will work.

That is what I have done, I have the 1.5 Patch installed with Rome Total Realism Platinum 1.9

RTR Platinum(PE) 1.9 is basically RTR Gold(6.0) but updated to make it compatible with RTW 1.5/BI 1.6. So it's not the latest release, in fact RTR 6.0 is circa 2005.

If you have the mod-switch version PE 1.9? the preference file will be in RTRPE folder, which will be located a level below your main RTW folder.

Are you using the Steam version of RTW or are you using a retail version?
Can you find your game directory at all, or are you simply missing the preferences folder?

EDIT: Finn pretty much covered one of the things I had stated before editing it.

Still no luck. I have a retail version of the game.

Here are the folders that I can see.

    I open my Activision folder:

Only folder in there called Rome - Total War

Inside the Rome - Total War folder I have the following:

    Data - folder
    Docs - folder
    Miles - folder
    saves- folder

    campaign_map_reset - batch file
    gamespy - Icon
    mss32.dll
Rome Total War 1.3 patch Read me Eng
    RomeTW. exe
    RTR_Platinum - Icon

That is all that is in the Rome TW folder.

So, after I said that I am running Windows 7, the replies dried up. Is there something obvious that I should have known about RTW and Windows 7? I'm sorry if I commited a faux pas or something but I didn't have this problem with the last computer that I had.... true though I was running Windows XP on it.

No problem here, I think people just got tied up in real life, someone will probably answer shortly .

I would answer, but I forget the solution to this issue. Its come up before in the past, so someone should know the remedy.

Ok if you have Windows 7, did you install it into Programs(x86) or Programs folder? If you did, uninstall Rome:TW and reinstall outside of these folders. Reason is, is that windows 7 does not like to have changes in these folders (new security measures) which makes your files "read only" and prevents things from happening in there which can, and does cause problems for games. I don't remember where I read it, but it works for me in 9 out of 10 cases. Try it and let us know if this helps you mate!

    Thanks hollowfaith,

That is going to be a pain in the hole but I'll give it try. I did notice one time that i tried to alter a .txt document inside the program folder and it said it was making the changes but it never did. I never did get it to change the file to read only. Surely there has to be a way to override that? This is my first Windows 7 PC so I don't know my way around it perfectly yet.

    I'll try it though, thanks.

That's really strange, because my games have always been in Program Files, I'm using Windows 7, and I've never had a problem. Maybe I am just lucky.

You must be very lucky, I got so aggravated with windows 7 on my netbook that I was driven to install Ubuntu on it.

For newer games its really not to much of an issue because all your files that get changed like saves etc are in your users folder, normally under users/app/roaming. Older games that usually change file states in their own folders are the ones that generally have issues.
