I've always been quite fussy over borders and whether they're... adequate? No, perfect. I like my country to have shaped borders (no, not straight like America). So, I thought, wouldn't it have been (or could be) a great idea to make the borders adjustable.
For example, you send an army from East Prussia into Courland, your army is a few centimetres in and your borders alter in regards to your, or your enemy's position. So, the land around you, you control, makes sense, no? The towns you raid, you don't necessarily have to raid, you could take the produce from it? You can do effective flanking, squashing the enemy, they're losing territory and that can be the reason for them surrendering or begging for peace - not you sieging their major city.
You could negotiate border changes, draw out the border changes, count up the percentage of the region that amounts to?
Understandably, these are complicated demands, but with the growth of technology, don't you think it would (have been and be) a great idea to include in Total War games?
