Hi all,
I dont really post too much on these forums but am a heavy lurker and for the most part find people on here both helpful and interesting.
Now, I love TW games. Always have. I know that Empire wasnt polished when it came out but Ive recently been playing again and I really do think its an excellent game. The way some people have been talking about it could be likened to the deep emotional scarring of a difficult breakup! Not only this but Napoleon was a cracking game also.
I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyones opinion is worth as much as the next guy (although some people do struggle with that somewhat basic concept) however some of the view of quite a few on here I am really struggling to get my head round when it comes to Shogun 2.
I had originally decided to wait on Shogun for a month although the steam discount (£30 for pre order, £40 for released game) coupled with a tight financial position personally meant that I went into the demo with the opinion of 'if I think this could be another epic I will pre order'. I will tell you now that I made that decision within an hour. I'll be playing on the 15th.
Looking at this game as a stand alone, ignoring previous issues or whatever emotional baggage you may have from past experience I honestly cant comprehend why, if you like this kind of strategy game, you would not want Shogun 2.
Here's a few things that really made me want to play:
- Agents - These guys are really cool, love the fact all seem equally useful and also love the development tree
- Units - Not a massive historical buff on this particular period and geography but I cant help but love the unit tiering and balance. Honestly think this will be more interesting than previous titles.
- Map - 2d/3d split is a great way to make expansion interesting and boy does it look beautiful
- Unique and limited resources - This is an example of a great way to ensure planning in expansion and tactical nouse needed to ensure important back doors are covered. The point is that I think TW is trying to be more and more tactical and strategic; which is a wonderful thing.
- Graphics - Its not crysis 2 but who the hell cares, it still looks amazing and will be top notch with a little AA thrown in
Theres tonnes more to this game but my point is that even if there are a couple of things that arent perfect, I really dont mind as I believe that Shogun will not be abandoned (like EA did with FIFA 11 for PC, but thats another story..). Games these days in my opinion can be split between 2 categories. Those that play it safe and ones that push the boundary. I for one dont mind a slightly bumpy road if im heading somewhere I havent been before.
I appreciate you listening to my ramble and look forward to getting flamed by the haters. I am confident that come March 15th, I'll be a happy man.
Jase
