Can anyone give me a link to a place where I can download 3-D max? Or do I have to buy it? Well can anyone answer either question?

    Thanks in advance,

For 3D max i'm afraid you gonna have to buy it. But there is a free(stripped) version of 3DMax called GMax. You can download it register and use it for free. But as the verchengetorix CAS plug-in was develloped for 3DS Max i doubt it could be used in GMax.

    Anyways won't hurt to try

    Here's the link http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

Also you might want to read this thread from people who used GMax in attempt to model RTW: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42176

Also here's a link for a free trial version http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multime...udio-Max.shtml
but as you can see, to have it full you'll need to spend almost 4000$

Do you mean mapping a model using 3DS Max of actually modify one (like texture, color, etc..)??

If it's only to modify (retexture it) you have to use a programm like photoshop, painshop pro, etc...
If not then your best option is to try yourself as i never used GMax for RTW game.

If you want to open .CAS files then you are planning to edit a model for this you will need 3DS Max, if you want to edit an existing unit's skin (the color) then you need to open the .DDS file using program such as paintshop pro or photoshop (or other if you know any others). Can you specify what exactly you want to do and i'll tell you if you are in the right direction.
    Thanks guys, appreciate it,
I'm the only one here :sweatingb

I want to change an existing unit's skin. I already have the program which allows you to open .DDS files, but it doesn't look right. There is just a square that has like half of the unit. Like I'll try to take a pic and post it.

Thanks soo much for the help,
    Adnan

Hmm i guess what you mean is that you want to UV MAP an existing model using 3DS Max. For this you will need 3DS Max. If you happen to find it, here are good video tutorials on how to model and uv map RTW models in 3ds max http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=54542

P.S. if possible can you post a screenshot of what you mean.

The textures generally only show half of the unit - it gets mapped onto both halfs of the unit.

Oh thanks Lusted, but like, the units don't even look like vanilla units. They just look strange.

    Thanks all,
    Adnan

Thats what skins look like. Its just an easy and effective way to lay out the skin.

Vercingetorix' .CAS file importer/exporter can be used with GMAX. You can import, and you can edit the models, but you can't export (a limitation of GMAX.) So you would have to send the edited file GMAX file to a 3dMax owner to have it exported. GMAX is no longer being supported by the maker, so you might not be able to get it registered anymore.
