Default What damage can frequent 'hard shutdowns' do?

I'm asking this because the Shogun II demo keeps bringing my system down (it's the only game doing it - all others are fine, even things like F1 2010 and Empire). All drivers etc are fully up to date and so on and so forth, etc etc. If it would be advisable to stop playing the demo and just wait for the game, that's what I'll do (from what I've seen, I do want the game).

    Thanks in advance!

Right, that's the end of the demo on my system then. I've had my system 'dislike' demos before, only for the game to be fine, I hope Shogun II follows that trend.

    Thanks for your help.

    Here's a more thorough explanation:

"Depends on whether the computer is busy writing to the disk at the time. If the computer is shut down when it's writing to the disk, you're going to end up with fragmented and/or corrupted files. If those files happen to be something like .DLL files, the program won't even be able to run."

Yes, this happened to me once with an old computer with a dodgy power supply.

It got to the point where I'd BSOD while trying to load Windows. Repaired the Windows Installation, threw the PSU out, problem solved.

When Windows shuts down, put simply, it clears the RAM and makes sure everything is okay with the hard disk. Frequent hard reboots circumvent this process and can lead to problems.
