I skipped NTW, mainly because I'm more fond of the ETW era + worldwide colonial fighting. I've heard a lot of good things about NTW however so I'm not opposed to picking it up. Steam has the Imperial Edition for $30, and the Peninsular Campaign is $10, which I've heard good things about.

Is the game worth that much money? ETW was fun but buggy, I've heard that a lot of the bugs got fixed with NTW and its a much better experience. I'll probably pick up Shogun 2 TW as well if its good, since I prefer pre-gunpowder era stuff, but its fun to use muskets every once in a while.

Also, are there many good mods for NTW available? I just don't know if its worth buying for $30 (for 40 if I want the DLC), given I'm probably going to pick up S2TW soon, and I already have Empire.

Yes but, like you, I enjoy the more global of Empire. The only "Sandbox" campaign you can play in N:TW is Europe only, and without mods you can't even play France in that campaign. :O

I'd suggest playing through the Italian then Egypt campaign then just download a mod (I use La Montee de l'Empire ) and play away!

    Campaigns of the Coalition?

I never got to the Europe Campaign in the campaigns of Napoleon (Where I'm assuming only France is playable) I just downloaded a mod so I could play whatever faction I liked in a sandbox campaign.

Napoleon's Europe Campaign is the same map as Campaigns of the Coalition.

Well it's indeed smaller than empire, but the bigger focus brings out a lot of good things. also some annoying things from Empire have been removed (more provinces, gentlemen spawn next to the school instead on the bahamas). the new replenishment and attiration system is also more realistic. And offcours MP campaigns

I bought if for the princley sum of five pounds last week, enjoying it alot just now (admittedly I've only played a few hours, with the Europe in Conflict mod on top), campaign seems more interesting, more going on, not saying that makes it more challenging but it does make it more of an evolved experience, lots to do and see. Not tried the smaller campaigns but they always seemed to be harder or more demanding in the other games so I imagine it might be the same, AI has mroe obvious goals and is therefore more able to focus on hurting you.

I just bought NTW and ETW GOTY for only 6 pounds! However, the offer is over now.
I don't recommend you to buy from Steam cause it's much cheaper as a retail copy and you can register it to Steam too, so it's the same game as bought from Steam. Buy Imperial Edition and you'll get nice stuff.
For me,Napoleon would be the best TW game if only there were more playable factions and more continents.

Buy it, and you won't regret it. It's a really good game, best TW game since MTW.

I agree with Basileos, best TW-game yet. not as big as rome or medievall or empire, but that only makes it better

I prefer the small scale, like the Italian and Egyptian campaigns. More detail in the map, better region borders etc.

Italian campaign was enjoyable but the Egyptian campaign was too forced. It was quite obvious they rushed the production so the mamelukes just spammed cheap units to counter my line infantry. It was a roll over. Austria put up a decent fight at least.

I'd say it's worth buying now. It's pretty cheap. I just got back into it and I'm enjoying it a lot using the Napoleon Empire Realism-mod and Diggy's sounds aswell as some minor visual mods. I feel like battles are very enjoyable with the Realism-mod. As some have mentioned ,the scale is a lot smaller than in Empire. One thing that bothered me in empire was how small all the lands were despite the scale. Everything just felt very.. crammed, especially europe. This is not the case in Napoleon's Europe-campaign. It's definiatly worth it if you liked empire and like the napoleonic wars.

I bought it for £10, and have played it for 100 hours, so it was worth it. Just buy it, anything you don't like, there'll be a mod for it, I bet.

It is a great game buy it for sure... I just hope they give it some more support soon now that STW2 has gone gold because the boarding bug is no fun at all as I actually enjoy the naval battles few as there are in NTW.
