If squalor is that much of a problem then you could just add additional happiness bonuses to your buildings to offset the squalor.

Personally squalor has never been a problem in my games. If you accept that squalor rises and falls with population and build the appropriate infrastucture you shouldn't have any problems.

Its 220 BC in my game (1.2, no mods) and I have about 6 cities with imperial palaces, all of those cities are on the brink of plague with 85%+ squalor, and have been for a long while, even though I have only had one plague outbreak. They all have every public health building but that does little/nothing to reduce the squalor, the cities have from 24,000 - 30,000 people. Its a pain in the ass to have to watch my settlements and governors for plague so that my governors don't get wiped out, I wish there was a fix for it.

    Is anyone reading this????????????????

SQUALOR LEVEL INCREASES WITH POPULATION, YOU CAN ONLY, ONLY REDUCE IT BY REDUCING POPULATION.

Why can't people understand this simple concept.

Chances for plague are increased by not building the net government building when you reach a population threshold. Building sanitation buildings reduce this risk by increasing public health.

No need to get aggressive, not all of us are as fast as you are

Anywayz, Squalor has indeed nothing to do with plagues. If you want to fix the revolt risk thought that's a different matter because that can be modded.
If you wish to do that go into you export_descr_building.txt file, found in the RTW Data folder. change the happiness bonus that governer buildings give you to 1000 and your revolt problems should be over.
Don't forget to make a backup of the file before you edit it, or you might end up with a crashing RTW.

    Apologies Homi

I just keep reading threads about trying to reduce squalor all the time; when it is the offset of public order that is the issue.

    Sorry if I sounded

The problem is that solving revolt problems this way goes against logic IMHO. instead of solving the squalor problems you have to give them ''hapiness''
A bit like: You get angry if I slap you in the face so i'll just give you 10 dollars. I'd say the best solution is not to slap you in the face at all.
not making a lot of sense here i think.....

I read somewhere that not building farms helps... Try building better temples what increase happiness/health.

Take your garrison out of the city. Let it riot for one turn. It will revolt on the second turn, so put the garrison back in. Presto, you reduced the population of the city by a few thousand.

Also if you have a govenor they are likely to pick up some good traits or ancillaries related to increasing public order, although there is a risk associated to being in a town when it riots!
