I do not specifically know if this is posted in the correct place since I've never been on the rome forums. So admins move if it needs to be somewhere else.
But I was recently plagued with error 1316 which would'nt allow the game to install due to this error.
Here is a indetail account from Anarchistcrust back in 2007:
anywho I discovered a way to fix it and wanted to raze awareness. I searched the forum and theirs no information on this."Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Rome - Total War(TM).msi"
That's what it says when the computer is trying to "Update Component Registration... when I try to install it.
I'll start from the beginning: First I put the disc and it reads just fine and gives me the menu to Install the game. I click install and it brings up the little Rome: Total War red window with the InstallShield on the bottom right corner. It goes through its processes and another window pops up that says: Confirm Uninstall: Are you sure you want to completely remove Rome: Total War(TM) and all its features? (This is funning because I'm trying to install the game.) I click ok and the Setup Status window appears. It goes through a few processes until the "Updating component registration..." process and I get a window with that error. I click OK on the window and the Setup Status window stays there for a minute or so and on the processes it says "Rolling back action.." then closes and another window pops up saying "Uninstall complete... InstallShield Wizard has successfully uninstalled Rome Total War(TM)."
What's going down? I'm confused.
So to fix this install 'Windows install CleanUp utility'
heres a link http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then remove Rome total war with the utility.
then Rome Total War is installable again.![]()
