Default Looking to buy a new graphics card.

Hey, I want a recommendation for buying a new graphics card. I'm willing to spend 250 to 300 USD. My motherboard is a ASUSTeK P5N-E SLI, I have a decent sized space for a new card. I'm looking for something powerful and of good quality.

Any suggestions? I prefer Nvidia cards.

I prefer Nvidia cards as well. You can get a GTX560 for $250 or a GTX570 for $350. So I guess if I were you I'd go with an EVGA brand GTX560.

If you went AMD then the 6950 would be the card to get.

Temps Oh look the GTX560 runs much cooler than all AMD cards with similar performance on idle and on load.

So who's full of crap I wonder?

Let's not turn this into a pissing match, I enjoy Nvidia cards and I have had a good experience with Nvidia cards, therefore I will support their company.

So you suggest the superclocked one?

An epic miss use of the word 'super' there by EVGA if everything in life was super if it was improved by less then 10% then it would lose all meaning. I can't say I'm personally a big fan of EVGA they have a pretty bad rep in this side of the pond for various reasons but I don't see to many yanks complaining about the service they provide.

I would get the cheapest 560 you could find and overclock it yourself and I would overclock it because at $250 it's value is decent but there is better value cards out there such as the Radeon 6870's. Sticking with the 560 Ti's I would be tempted to get the MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II OC edition (more abuse of marketing this time from MSI, the 560 weren't tagged with the GTX suffix by Nvidia so they could be aimed at mid range market), the warranty is 3 years which is plenty (how long do you plan to keep it?), a great cooler and pre overclocked to boot and $10 cheaper then the EVGA superclocked edition.

Could you possibly point out the difference? besides price? (lol)

I found these two on newegg:

I'm going to be using the computer for gaming, mainly newer games and alongside windows 7 home. Would superclocked be worth it?

If you don't want to overclock it yourself then ya, the superclocked card would be worth the premium. You get a lifetime warranty with these EVGA cards so you can't go wrong there.

Does overclocking improve performance? I mean...naturally it does, but is it noticeable and how will if effect the card? pros and cons?

It will provide a decent FPS boost over the stock clock speeds, will you visibly notice it? Not unless you're getting like 20 FPS or less on a certain game.

It will increase the temps on the card although the GTX560 runs cool and quiet so it's a great candidate for overclocking. There really are no cons to speak of at the level that card is overclocked.

What about the longevity? I imagine it burns out faster then a typical card?

As I mentioned before the GTX560 runs very cool even when overclocked. High temps reduce life expectancy quicker than anything else. And the card has a lifetime warranty on top of that so it's not like you'd be out your money if it failed which it won't.

EVGA support is US based unlike all other video card companies that sell in the US. You call theri support and you talk to a honest to God US citizen, not some heavily accented foreigner who clearly doesn't give a about your problems.

Rather than saying "factory overclocked GTX560" on their box EVGA puts "superclocked GTX560" for simplicity. A factory overclocked card gets a 10% raw performance boost over the stock GTX560 yet you are paying 4% more than the stock card.

So for 4% more cost you get 10% more performance while maintaining extremely low thermals. (Yes I realize that review is for a Palit card, but it has been overclocked identically the same as EVGA's superclocked card)

Alternatively you can overclock the card yourself for free if you wish, or just be content with stock speeds.

That is an extremely nice card, I will not lie. Now I'm torn lol. I'm planning on keeping the card around three years and this computer will be mainly resigned to gaming as I am going to buy a laptop for school and everything else.

So, overall it's a choice between:

That MSI has been overclocked to just short of the EVGA Superclocked card so their performance is basically the same. I would still go with the EVGA card just for their great warranty support, I can guarentee MSI would be harder to deal with, but most of the time you won't have any trouble with a GPU and MSi does have a nice cooler on theirs.

With the Twin Frozr II being 10 bucks cheaper than the EVGA reference card, that'd be the one I pick.
