Hi, I'm having the same problem as a previous poster "Henry". I'm getting the unspecified error.

This is what I have tried thus far: Ran as admin, and changed the launcher and mideval exe file names (I backed the original files up and now am back to the original).

I have a beast of a laptop.

As was mentioned before check your display settings. If I watch a DVD then try to run M2TW it will not load due to a recalibration of the diplay settings for the DVD. Might be that simple. Your current display settings are not supported by the game IIRC.

Ok, now I'm about to throw in the towel. After I post this I'm going to check the integrity again. Regardless of the screen resolution I still get a black screen or an unspecified error.

After validating the game files steam didn't find any problem, still getting the black screen.

The only thing I'd add at this point is to install the DirectX 9.0c codec. As far as I know M2 just doesn't always like DX 11.

Very frustrating. When i d/l the game I let steam install it to its default locations. I know some people swear not to install into program filesx86 but I have never had any troubles. Perhaps you can try that? No reconfiguring of exe's needed.

Did you run the game first from the Steam website through your account? I seem to recall starting it once from there before being able to launch it from the desktop?

Seriously dude when I first read your post I was like wtf is your deal. I maintain my computers on regular basis (defrag hd's and so on). 32 gigs isn't enough? Steam downloaded a number of patches for whatever reason, I'm just glad it works now.
