Default The most brilliant battle of the great war

The Battle of Megiddo was the most brilliantly executed military action of the entire war, its worth a read for anyone on the forum! I just read about it in a book of mine, the wiki article is historically accurate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Megiddo_(1918)

You'll see that the British, French, and Arab armies combined wiped out 3 Turkish armies with minimal loss.

By the way, if someone could change the title from "Brillan" to Brillant, that would be nice!

Welllll, there were factors that made this so brilliant. The commanders were alot better on this front. There was more room to manouver on this front also. Commanders here understood that flanking, and attacking in the rear were good options

    Don't forget the Arabs!

However, that is the only WW1 battle I have heard of that had those kind of casulty ratios. Everything else was about 10:10 I should think

ah well, this is true, but battles weren't always a dead draw.

The battle of Tannenberg was a particularly successful German victory, part of the sadly neglected Eastern Front. (Hell the entire first world war is neglected, give us some movies and games world!)

7:1 in casualties? I fail at maths

Yes, the Eastern Front is much neglected, even more than the whole war... Sad. Being russian, i just have to remind you of the most brilliant feat of arms of russian army in that war: Brusilov's offensive
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brusilov_Offensive
The first successful assault against deeply entrenched enemy in the Great War, knockout of Germany's strongest ally, 400,000 captured, invention of shock groups, etc. etc. All of that with no tanks, no gas, no significant numerical superiority - just skills.
Douglas Haig tried to do the same in the west again and again, and never succeded...

True, the Russians did make some good wins against the Central Powers in WW1, often when no one else was (probably not quite true, but meh, the point still stands).

well, in the late months of 1918 there were break throughs all up and down the western front, against a demoralized germany army mind you
Another brilliant battle was on the isonzo front, fought by germany and AH. Erwin Rommel led a company of men through I think it was 5 or 6 lines of trenches, his surprise tactics cause many italians to surrender as soon as they saw him and his AlpenKorp.

Well, apparently the turks were the dying man of europe

Another Greatly executed battle was fought at the ST. Mihiel sailent by the Americans. Where the Americans lost only 7000 men, while the Germans had 15000 of they're men captured, and about 7000 casualties. Yes, this is around the correct numbers, Its in a book I've got, the wiki article is wrong about the casualties.

I don't think you quite got what Cassador meant. He meant the most brilliantly conducted battles. If you ask me, almost half a million German casualties, and over half a million French casualties doesn't really qualify Verdun as "brilliantly conducted".

Good god, over 300,000 dead on the battlefield at Verdun. We humans really know how to turn up the *dry

you know, no matter how many times i try to think about the significance of how many men would die in just a day during that war, I can't put it in my head, how the men must have piled up on those battlefields.
