    Default Goblins beating Dwarves, WTF?

Alright, I got besieged by the two goblin stacks script and I thought, no problem, the odds are somewhat against us, but we're on the defense. I deploy the crossbowmen on the walls near the castle center and some dwarf warriors too. I put 5 dwarf warriors in shield wall near the gate and the rest of my infantry behind the walls the crossbowmen are on in case they are destroyed. Battle starts and eventually they get one ladder on the wall the crossbowmen are on and are beat back. Then the goblin army starts bunching up near the gate, waiting for the ram, while taking heavy casualties by arrow, tower, and artillery fire. The ram comes, batter downs the gate and the goblins try to push their way in.

Eventually they get mixed in with my dwarves, the dwarven warriors start taking heavy casualties, so I turn guard mode off. The goblins are pushed back and the pushing stops. I was waiting for the goblin army to rout since they were taking heavy casualties from arrow, tower, and artillery fire. But no, they were eager and steady. So I decided to check the casualty meter. Slowly, over time, the dwarven casualty meter rose while the goblin's stayed the same. Finally, I decided to reinforce the gate with a couple more units and take the rest of my army to flank the goblins, and push my way to the goblin generals. I also turned the insult special ability on which makes the dwarves fight better. After reaching the goblin generals with heavy casualties, I killed them. But this had no effect. The goblins over ran the gates and captured the town center. Fortunately the battle timer ran out. Unfortunately, I got a ctd. So the question is, why did the goblins slaughter the dwarves at the gate while taking little casualties?

In that battle I had only the free upkeep number + the elders you get, grudge-tower and the slayers and prince Logan and beatem them fairly easy with like 200 dead on my side. What I did was keeping two units(one crossbow and one warriors) at the first gate to occupy and be killed there for a while(mind the wall defenses can do damage). Ive put my grudge-tower in front of the second wall with a unit of warriors ahead of it and shot at anything coming towards me, which where usually single or two goblin units routing at the first hit. That way I killed like half. Then at some point the breached the second wall, and the fight went to the castle square. I had one warrior unit in shieldwall formation drawing the goblin units and the elders and slayers on both sides to rush in on the flanks. Seeing how their generals where already dead by then, and the remaining forces very tired from all the previous fights they routed very easily once the slayers/elders rushed upon them.

5000 dead gobos are a beautiful sight in a Dwarven Karak. What a mod.

Sounds like you're doing it wrong.

There is an easy trick when playing the dwarves, I never fight on the walls, since numbers on the walls seem to count for allot (the few times I defended a wall with one dwarven unit vs one goblin unit, my dwarves lose, which seems rather strange since dwarves should be very capable on walls)

Inside your castle there are two ramps. I generally split my army in two unequal halves(the bigger group goes to the ramp closest to the gate). And put all my units on those ramps. I heavily reinforce the ramps with row upon row of stakes. 2-3 dwarven warior units can defend each ramp, add some reserves and quarellers and you have a rather easy to defend position. Full orc armies only give me around 20% losses.

That said, the fact that dwarves lose easily on wall seems really odd to me, they should be more than capable to topple off single goblin units, which they can't. And on the flat battleground they do pwn them..

    ....
I want to add that they were probably others factors, because I've always been playing dawarves, and I never experienced this problem on the walls, quite to the contrary.

    ^Yeah me too.

I think the OP's problem is the masses of greenskins pushing trough the gates at once. That pure Sturm & Drang kills any opponent in my games rather quick, even units like Phoenix Guards with their pikes out. Key is to lock them from both sides once their in, that is when they cant move forward(in that case Id give em some space and then engage).

I had a lovely 4 hour war doing that same fight >.<
I will say i saw the same thng looking at the kill tab at the end. Two of my dwarven warrior squads had -UNDER 10 KILLS-

I was just...Shocked. I'm not sure what their issue was. My other half a dozen warrior squads performed adequately and killed more then they lost which was kinda the expectation.
And my hammerer squads had fun sporting 1k+ kills >.>

One way to solve that. Pile units atop each other. In front of gate deploy stakes and right after gate is breached enter guard mod. As they pour in your dwarves should begin to push out. There mass should keep them contained. and will evetualy start to push them back out. Letting the murder holes get long uses

Your doing it wrong. The ballista towers and mortars take out their siege engines.
