Battle starts and eventually they get one ladder on the wall the crossbowmen are on and are beat back. Then the goblin army starts bunching up near the gate, waiting for the ram, while taking heavy casualties by arrow, tower, and artillery fire. The ram comes, batter downs the gate and the goblins try to push their way in.
Eventually they get mixed in with my dwarves, the dwarven warriors start taking heavy casualties, so I turn guard mode off. The goblins are pushed back and the pushing stops. I was waiting for the goblin army to rout since they were taking heavy casualties from arrow, tower, and artillery fire. But no, they were eager and steady. So I decided to check the casualty meter. Slowly, over time, the dwarven casualty meter rose while the goblin's stayed the same. Finally, I decided to reinforce the gate with a couple more units and take the rest of my army to flank the goblins, and push my way to the goblin generals. I also turned the insult special ability on which makes the dwarves fight better. After reaching the goblin generals with heavy casualties, I killed them. But this had no effect. The goblins over ran the gates and captured the town center. Fortunately the battle timer ran out. Unfortunately, I got a ctd. So the question is, why did the goblins slaughter the dwarves at the gate while taking little casualties?
