    Default Eldar Editing

    Hello!

I'm fairly new to modding, I know the basics but nothing more, and now I need some help.

There are some things I want to do:

    1. I wish to change the Eldar General's bodyguard.
I would like to dismount them, remove their spear and give them a bow(want to keep their 1handed sword + shield). How can I do this?
My guess is I need to change around with the models database and attatchments but I don't even know where to start.

    2. Change all eldars siege weapon crews into the more "heavy" soldier unit.

    3. Copy the Generals bodyguard mounted unit into a normal recruitable "alternative" cav unit. (If someone would want to give them a fitting unit description that would be great)

    4. Remove all fire arrows. Do I need to manually remove the ability from each unit or can I simply remove the ability from the game somehow?

My skills currently extends as far as copying a unit type from an addon into the mod, that's it.

Hope someone can help me! If I get it to work I might upload this somewhere if there is enough public demand.

there some tutorials out there, where you can find how to do the changes you want to do. most important is to save the vanilla files, before you change something. just look for a tutorial and give it a try.
    regards
    and good luck

Hi. I tried to answer your questions as good as possible

    1. Can be a pretty daunting task for a beginner, but there are a few tutorials in here. Check this one. I'd suggest to also do it step by step. First dismount him, then remove the spear, then add the bow, and then change the secondary weapons; instead of doing it all at once.

    2. Don't really understand what you mean ? Do you want the soldiers handling the siege weapons to be stronger ?

    3. Not too hard. Duplicate the general unit entry in export_descr_unit, and change the names slightly. The soldier entry can be preserved (here I took one from the normal game)

    Code:
type NE Bodyguard (change to something different, like NE_Bodyguard1 for example)
dictionary NE_Bodyguard (change to something different, like NE_Bodyguard1 for example)
    category cavalry
    class            heavy
    voice_type General
    banner faction main_cavalry
    banner holy crusade_cavalry
    soldier NE_Bodyguard, 16, 0, 1 (keep this one)
    mount barded horse
    mount_effect elephant -4, camel -4
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, very_hardy, can_withdraw, general_unit (delete this)
    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 2, square
    stat_health 2, 0
    stat_pri 13, 8, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, spear, 25, 1
    ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 14, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, sword, 25, 1
    ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 7, 5, 4, metal
    ;stat_armour_ex 7, 8, 0, 0, 5, 4, 4, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 5
    stat_ground 0, -2, -4, 0
    stat_mental 11, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 45
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 820, 250, 120, 95, 820, 1, 200
    armour_ug_levels 3, 4
    armour_ug_models NE_Bodyguard, NE_Bodyguard_ug1
ownership england, scotland, france, hre, denmark, poland, hungary, normans, slave
era 0 england, scotland, france, hre, denmark, poland, hungary, normans
era 1 england, scotland, france, hre, denmark, poland, hungary, normans
    ;unit_info 13, 0, 32
Then copy-paste all the entries in export_units.txt and all the unit cards from the normal bodyguard, and re-name them according to the new name

    4. You'll have to fiddle around in descr_projectiles. Try to delete this entry in that file (but create a backup first !) :

    Code:
    projectile arrow_fiery
    flaming arrow
    effect arrows_fire_new_set
    end_effect arrow_flaming_impact_ground_set
    end_man_effect man_impact_tiny_set
    end_package_effect arrow_flaming_impact_wall_set
    end_shatter_effect arrow_flaming_impact_ground_set
    end_shatter_man_effect man_impact_tiny_set
    end_shatter_package_effect arrow_flaming_broken_impact_wall_set
    effect_offset -0.85
    damage 0
    radius 0.1
    mass 0.05
    accuracy_vs_units 0.07
    affected_by_rain
    fiery
    min_angle -60
    max_angle 65
    velocity 20 48
    display aimed
    effect_only

Hey Killerbee, thanks. I've never tried 3D'ing because it looked too hard - but that tutorial seems very 3D-newbie friendly
I'm gonna try this out asap !

Hey guys, thanks alot for all the information!

And what I mean about number 2:
Right now the catapult and ballista crew look like the Light Elven Archer, I would like to change them too look sort of like the more "heavy" and normal Eldar type soldier with the "golden" armor and all, just to get a bit more consistency.
Preferably they should look like the Eldar Archers but without bow/ranged and only the 1handed sword.

I'm going to play around with the information you gave me and see what comes up, thank you very much! Before I didn't even know where to start, now at least you have put me in the right direction.
