    Default Install problems

    Quick question
I have downloaded SS6.3 ages ago but did not get the opportunity
to install it until now. as we know ss6.4 is out, my question is
do i still need to install the patches for ss6.3 or i can just
    install ss6.4 straight over ss6.3

i actually have 2 fixes patches) for ss6.3:
exe called Fixes (7965kb) downloaded few months ago with ss6.3 when it first came out
and exe called SS6.3_installation_patcher_v.2.5 (5735kb) that i downloaded today with ss6.4

do i need to install both before ss6.4? if yes what's the order? - very confusing

sorry - can't find the answer in faq

and as always to the developers

    cheers everyone

    181 henry,

Firstly when you install, please make sure the UAC disabled if using Vista/WIN7, then create your own folder, outside of Program Files and install 6.3/6.4 here, this is ok if MTW2 and SS are on same drive. If using XP, install on to MTW2 directly.

You install 6.3 first, then 6.4 over the top, those fixes are not required as within 6.4

    thanks for the reply

so you mean in win7, i can't install ss6.3/ss6.4 in the standard medieval folder?
i thought it supposed to go into the mod folder within your standard medieval install folder

So D:\M2TW is my stock medieval 2 path, so i should make an other folder D:\SS and put ss6.3/6.4 in there? but then how can i run the mod, i think the mod at least need medieval 2 exe to run right?

    - still VERY confused - can't try it since i don't have access to my gaming pc at the moment
    - i have never installed a mod like this - need detailed step by step instructions

    0. Make sure UAC is OFF.
    1. Uninstall MTW2 and Kingdoms.
    2. Restart your Computer.
    3. Install MTW2 to somewhere on your main drive (usually C drive but NOT in program files. So like C:/games
    4. Install Kingdoms to your MTW2 game. (this includes patch 1.4 already)
    5. Optional but recommended cause its short and doesn't hurt: install patch 1.5 (downloads found here:http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=96588)
    6. Now your ready for SS, yay!
    7. Open your 6.3 download folder on your desktop and run ss6.3.exe (follow the directions, and point the installer to your C:/games or whatever install of MTW2).
    8. Now run ss6.4.exe from your desktop. Point it at the ss6.3 mod folder found here: C:\Games\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3 and follow the installer.
    9. Enjoy a wonderful mod!
    10. Get addicted

some one posted these instructions - it clearly states the mod should go in the ROOT medieval 2 folder??
why is this not recommended?? (using win 7)

i wrote these...but in case its not clear...Install mtw2 (non ss) and kingdoms (non ss) to somewhere other than Program Files, should read like this

C:\Games\SEGA\Medieval II Total War instead of C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War

then: when you install SS, the installer will do the rest but the location should be: u still point it at the mods folder...but the installer should do it for u

    C:\Games\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3 instead of C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3

this is recommended for win7/vista users.

    181henry,

If you install into Program Files, even with UAC disabled, some people have still encountered problems with CTD, therefore an alternative by making another place outside of program files, may a get a different result
