    Default Frames per second problem

hey 1st off im computer illiterate but ive been having this odd issue and was hoping someone could help me figure it out.

    my system specs are

    Intel(R)coreTM(2)CPU
    6600 @ 2.40GHz
    2.39GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM

My issue is that when im playing games (any game now) my FPS will be great on the recomended settings then a few mins in it will become3-5 FPS and just be unplayable. This happens on the lowest settings and on all games now. In he past I could play games like Dragon age, mass effect, mount and blade etc no problem now everything just goes to garbage FPS a few mins in.

ive tryed rebooting restoring etc but this has been going on for over a week and I have no idea what the problem is. Does this sound like a graphics card or other kind of hardware problem?

any help would be greatly appreciated
