Well, after several years, my Pentium 4 system is really, really starting to creak a bit, and with S2 amongst other games out in the next month, I have decided the time is right to get a new PC.
I have a budget of around £1000, however im totally illiterate when it comes to building PC's, and im only semi literate when it comes to what hardware is good etc. I've looked at various sites and various different builds and done as much research as I can without my brain going numb; and I come to you now with a rough sort of build, which I fully expect you lot to rip apart for me and suggest bits that might be better. Anyways, here it is:

I've read that the new Sandy Bridge processors have 'issues', however I have no idea whether I really need to be concerned about it. For now though, i've selected an AMD X6 jobby, but as I say, im not the most literate when it comes to hardware and i'm happy to take on board any suggestions. As I also say, budget of around £1000, less is always good, but I dont really want to be doing any upgrading for at least a couple of years, so im prepared to pay a little more for certain bits if it will benefit me in the longer run.
Many thanks for anyone who takes the time to read and comment!

The 'issue' with the new Intel's atm is actually with the motherboard chipset released alongside them. That fault should be fixed within the next two months (I think that's the rough estimate, it may be sooner), so if you can wait that long then you definitely should, and swap out the AMD cack for the i5 2500K (~£160). Other than that, this is about the same as I'm planning to get in the summer.

Asus Mobos are supposed to be back on sale in two weeks actually.
Im really just passing on advice here.
You might want to wait for the new AMD bulldozers. Sandy bridge processors are fine, but there have been issues with the the mobo chipsets. Intel is shipping the fixed versions now. On the other hand the cheaper Intel processors are only 4 or less cores, and that 6 core doesnt have a bad clock speed.
You might want some USB 3.0 ports on your mobo, or you might not depending if that stuff matters to you.
Nice case, Im getting that myself.
You might want a SATA 6GBs Hard drive, not much more expensive. If you want to spend more money 64 MB cache will speed up transferall a bit.
RAM might be a bit overboard but I say its future proof
