    Default Trouble adding a unit to the game

    As the title states, I am having trouble adding a unit to the game. What I am trying to do is redo the Turk's roster one unit at a time with units from BC (for my own, personal use). I am performing these edits to Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod (which is just like Vanilla except with the kingdom's factions and units added in). My first unit that I am trying to replace is the Turkish Azab with the Anatolikoi Hillmen unit. Here is what I have done so far:

    Added the aor_anatolian_axmen_lod0.mesh to my data/unit_models/_units/bc_units folder
    Added the aor_anatolian_axmen_diff.texture and aor_anatolian_axmen_norm.texture files to my data/unit_models/_units/bc_units/textures folder
    Added the attach_aor_anatolian_axmen_diff.texture and attach_aor_anatolian_axmen_norm.texture files to my data/unit_models/_units/bc_units/attachments folder

    Added this entry to my battle_models.modeldb file:

    and I made sure to add 1 to the value at the top of the battle_models.modeldb file.

    deleted the azab's entry from my export_descr_unit file (I wasn't sure if the amount of units in KGCM was at its cap so I went ahead and did this just in case it was).

    And that is all that I have done so far. I wanted to make sure the unit was added to the game before fooling with the unit card, unit description, etc. However, the game crashes every time I try to load it up. Anyone know why this is happening? Did I leave something out or forget to change something?

    haha, wow... thanks for catching that. I feel stupid for making such a small mistake...

    Anyway, now when I start the game, it goes to the loading screen (which it didnt do prior to the battle_Models.modeldb fix), but then it crashes again. There must be something else somewhere that I'm missing.

    I'm guessing the error has to do with the game not recognizing the model, but I double checked... and I definitely have the mesh, the 2 textures, and the 2 attachment textures in the folders indicated in the battle_model.modeldb. Is there something else that this error could mean?

    I could be wrong, I dont work much with battle_models.modeldb. But isn't the first title entry the 'soldier name'

    So shouldnt you 'soldier' in edu be "anatolikoi_hillmen" and not "aor_anatolian_axmen" though that would be your model.

    You are right it should be the name of the model from the BMDB file not the name of the mesh file.
    Though not sure that he has a model entry in the BMDB by the name aor_anatolian_axmen if he does then he can use that.

    Lanier, this shows you that you're trying to specify a battle_model entry in export_descr_units.txt that doesn't exist:

    Could not find soldier battle model for unit type 'aor_anatolian_axmen'.

    You can use any entry which uses the same animations as your new entry on the soldier line. But you will want to use the correct entry for the armour_ug_models line.

    thanks for the help but after copy/pasting that EDU entry, it still doesnt work. Same log message. The mesh in the modeldb is called aor_anatolian_axmen, so why don't I use that for the armor_ug_models?

    You named the battle_models entry anatolikoi_hillmen, so you have to use that. The name of the mesh doesn't matter, only the entry name is important.

    I don't understand whats still wrong. In the EDU, the armor_ug_model and soldier are both "anatolikoi_hillmen" which is what my model is called. Yet, its still crashing and giving me the same error log as before.

    I don't understand whats still wrong. In the EDU, the armor_ug_model and soldier are both "anatolikoi_hillmen" which is what my model is called. Yet, its still crashing and giving me the same error log as before.
    I've found that its easier to keep the name in the battle_models and the name of the model itself ("anatolikoi_hillmen_lod0.mesh") as the same. I've had this same problem and thats the easiest way i've found to find it

    Try this..
    Also you didn't answered Squid's question..Did you update the model count at the top of battle_model.db?
    If not then they do so as the model won't be read seeing that it's at the bottom of the file.

    Now that you're using the correct entry name, try increasing the serialisation number (even if you did it before).

    Also... Not sure if you have entered the unit's description text in text\export_units.txt - need to make an entry for it there.

    Copy/paste the actual names of your unit textures and mesh files (not from your edu or bmdb but the actual names.) Your edu is looking for the .texture aor_anatolian_hillmen and your BMDB is looking for the .texture aor_anatolian_axmen

    thanks for the help everyone, its all working now.

    I do have one final question though... I had previously figured that simply adding new units to the game would be save game compatible, since all I was changing was the EDU, EDB, and Modeldb files... however, I am not so sure now, since I am also removing units previously in the game to make room for these new units. Therefore, my question is, will removing units completely from the EDU corrupt current save games? I suppose its not a big deal if they would, but it is something that I would like to know for future reference.
