Default Battle of Thermopylae: The Video

Some time ago I made this video. I wanted to show people how a battle could have been, and what battle is more heroic than the one at Thermopylae. It took me hours, hours and even more hours to finish this movie. It was hard. And hey, it has music from The Gladiator .

First I had to master the movie editor. I played battles and battles and replays and replays. I edited my ass off until I got the hang of it. After that I fought countless battles against the AI, in the hope it would turn out alright for this theme.

Well, and if that ain't all, you don't want to know how much work it takes to edit a battle of 45 minutes into 10 minutes, trying matching it with the music, keeping the quality high. I had thousands of pictures on my hard drive which I had to turn into clips, which had to turn into this movie.

But hey, I did it and this is the result. I admit the quality is not superb, the original video was 500 MB and I managed to shrink it too a lousy 64 MB or something like that. Don't worry about the size because Google will STREAM it for you . If you people like the movie I'll try to upload a better quality version this weekend.

Of course, it was not possible to recreate the battle of Thermopylae. What I did was using a small number of Spartans and a whole lot of Persians. The fight starts at a bridge, to simulate the battle space. It was impossible to find a right location for this, other than the bridge. Last, the Spartans eventually move over the bridge, because the AI didn't move. It turned out good because some time later the brave Spartans got surrounded, just like the real battle.

You will see some blurry spots sometimes if you view the movie fullscreen. Try not doing that, it will make things look strange. I'm really interested in what yoy guys think . ENJOY!

It looks really nice, I am downloading now. I am sure you did a great job. Also it is nice that you include Gladiator soundtrack in it.

    A titanjob! Very very good!

Marvellous job on the music too: 'The Gladiator' music stays marvellous, no matter how many times you listen to it.

I know the resolution sucks, I'll upload a better one this weekend . I burned the original movie on DVD, its awesome .

Oh yeah, and you may try to change the screensize to Original, so you can actually see what happens in the movie. Somehow Google Video resizes it so big it sucks.

And thanks for the positive comments .

did you know that with the battle editor you can recreate the battlefield better by placing cliffs facing each other?
cuz that would have made more sense

    Ehrm...

"Thanks for your interest in Google Video.

Currently, the playback feature of Google Video isn't available in your country.

We hope to make this feature available more widely in the future, and we really appreciate your patience."

Is it possible for you uploading it somewhere, maybe to

    www.rapidshare.de (max filesize 50MB)

    or

    www.yousendit.com

    Thanks in advance :original: .

Why wouldn't it be available. It is on the internet. Shouldn't it be the same from everywhere?

I'm not a computer-geek but I know somehow they can track from where you load their website. This is indeed possible so Godzilla can't download, but I think you're not missing too much since the resolution is really low. You can upload up to 100 MB at rapidshare.de please upload some better quality-vid ! Thank you, I'd really like to see !

In IE go to internet options. Then to languages and there you add an english language (e.g. english us). Then it should load the vid. at least in my case it did :original:

Great job (and idea in general)! Yes, a higher resolution would make it even more splendid.

I look forward to future videos.
