Default I'm New to the Game! Need Advice!

Hi, everyone! I just started playing EUIII, I thought I wouldn't like it at first, but I soon found I really liked its grand strategy!

Anyway, I played a few different nations for a few hours, before switching to playing Holland, I wanted to see if I could form the Netherlands. I think I was pretty lucky, I was especially afraid of Burgundy, but then it got destroyed by France and England, I rushed to grab Flanders and Antwerp. Afterwards, my greatest fear was France, but then England and France went to kill each other and I just went in at the last moment to snatch some land. I also own the lands of Maya and Aztecs in the Americas, as well as the Shawnee or somehting tribe lands, I figured it would take too long if I waited for my lands in Africa to gain cores.

I have a question, why did my reputation, "badboy score" skyrocket to 172??? I mean, if France attacked me, and it did, wouldn't it be wiser and safer to give it a Carthaginian Peace to ensure one's own safety? I mean, Those French could recover in a year or so and kill me if they had their lands. I tried to keep down my Badboy score at 72, but then gave up.

Annoying thing is now I keep suppressing revolts.

Anyway, I hope I could gain some advice for my next game!!! Hope you can help me out!!!

BTW, in the end I found my Army was inferior to the neighbors, My research level is about 14 but others are 16??? How much should I invest at all?????

Unless you have an army that can take on the entire world and win, I suggest not breaching that limit. You look like you're playing HTTT. Before you offer a peacedeal it will tell you how much Infamy you'll incur. Pay attention to the figure. EU3 is not a game designed so that you can keep going to war and taking all you possibly can like Total War is.

That's probably due to you being at -1 Stability. You may have also incurred a lot of War Exhaustion from the wars which is also feeding it. Go to the menu's and go on the army tab, and there should be a little number somewhere there, and if you hover over it it'll tell you your war exhaustion. Every 1 War Exhaustion gives +1 Revolt Risk. Lastly, you look like you have a lot of Non-Cores, and you may be being hit by Overextension. (Oh, and iirc, being over the infamy limit in HTTT gives random events giving +15% RR in a province!).

Research investment is determined by monthly income. The actual amount needed to go up a tech is proportional to the number of provinces you own. So if you had a dozen provinces and barely increase your monthly income, you'll start falling behind in tech. (I wouldn't worry about that gap, levels 14-16 are cheaper than average to go up anyway).

I was really worried about the Land Tech, I didn't think about it much when I still managed to fight off attacking armies, it wasn't until when I fought against Castille, and though outnumbering by 5000 men, I won a victory at the cost of losing almost all my men. I hate that dice! With each a total of 5000 in Artillery, Cavalry, and Infantry, I lost 10000 men before defeating 6000 men, while they only lost 2000 men.

The stability is negative in the picture, but even when positive at "+3", the riots are still much in effect.

I remembered afterwards, my men were still Landsknecht, and the icons in other countries had already turned into.... Tercios.... I've decided to play another country as a fresh start.

It's mostly War Exhaustion, which new players don't realise they're incurring until it's starting to do damage, or Nationalism, which is something in effect in provinces you've recently conquered that you don't have a Core on, which takes about 50 years to die away completely.

The biggest thing to learn about this game is don't treat it like you would Total War. If you go for rapid expansion and start declaring war on everyone around you, then unless you really know what you're doing you're going to get burned.

Commission a bunch of paintings to build up your cultural tradition, and recruit an adviser to lower you infamy

it takes 50 years as they will keep rising up (provided revolt risk is low enough) until the previous owner of the province loses their core on the region.

unless you have a specific mission to conquer a province you will gain infamy for taking it, how much depends on the province i think. If you get lots of infamy like you have you also get an event that goes something like "everyone hates you so much that..." it has something to do with people in other countrys telling your citizens how much they hate you so your citizens become very likley to revolt.

also the gap between when other nations gain gunpowder infantry and when you do is a good time to stop going to war, if you do though you should just be able to overwhelm them. With most of france, bits of england, and so much colonial lands you probably have alot of manpower.

Also if you are looking for a new start, the horde nations both burn off infamy extremly fast and get events that give cores in neighboring provinces, so going to war is not a problem for them. Although, if you stay out of a war for too long, your population revolts
