I've been trying to use DBEditor for awhile now, and the results have been mixed. I can alter some things, but not others (naval stats but not land stats, government effects but not unit costs, etc.). I suspect this has something to do with the fact that I haven't unpacked any .pack files (every time I do, I need to delete and re-install completely for ETW to run).
I'd appreciate some help with either using DBEditor or how to properly unpack the needed files for DBEditor to work.
In any case, help is appreciated. I've already seen the tutorials available, none of them are clear to me, so I'd strongly prefer not to be redirected to one of those.
Thank you very much.
I should add some things.
When I use DBEditor, it only lists patch4 and patch5. I can alter anything by turning Read only off, but the only effects that show up in the game are the ones I make to certain tables (naval stats, government effects, etc.). I'd like to know how to alter everything in these tables and have it persist.
Do I need to do something with Pack File Manager?

Re: DBEditor Problem
Do not change vanilla tables but make new from File menu. Copy there the content from vanilla, make your changes, save and you'll find your new mod pack ready. Add the proper command in user script and you are good to go.

Re: DBEditor Problem
Keep in mind if your using Vista or Windows 7 you need to run any editor program as an administrator or they may not let files be changed without actually telling you the change was not allowed. Also Mod manager is much easier to work with then editing the user script manually.
To be honest I find Pack File Manager much easier and better to work with then DB editor, the only thing you loose is comparison between your files and the relevant vanilla files. However setting up your own .pack is a little more complicated then with DB editor.
