    Icon4 Campaign Camera Movement

    Hi all,

This has been an issue bugging me since the ETW engine was implemented.

When you move the campaign camera with your mouse (by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen), there is a pause before the camera actually moves. It completely slows down the functionality of the campaign for me making it feel sluggish and tedious. I'm not a fan of using the WASD keys to move the camera.

This came back to light in the Shogun 2 Demo on the Campaign Tutorial. I hope they put an option in to turn off that movement delay, or even remove it entirely before release.

Does anyone else share this frustration?

    Evan

Ya that was the first thing I noticed aswell and it really annoyed me... I can't think of any reason why you would even put that in... What's the point.

I agree, though I mostly just use the WSAD keys anyway.

Gonna have to agree here, ETW, NTW, and now STW2 campaign map has always felt sluggish. The scroll delay is unnecessary, and the map itself lags(just like in ETW/NTW). The graphics aren't any better than say, Civilization 4(not even 5, which runs fine anyways), so I don't think there is an excuse. It ought to be fixed.

Using the keyboard was smooth but yeah moving with the mouse was not very smooth. Hope CA works this out but since it has been around since this new engine I don't expect much.

Took me a while to even realize this, I just thought edge-scrolling was broken in a way that it worked whenever it felt like.

I think this function is meant to prevent clumsy or easily-disoriented players to accidentally move the screen when they were just trying to click something on the edges of the screen. Well-intended, but mostly pointless, as my mom wouldn't play (she complains the mouse cursor moves too fast when she happens to surf the net). I believe this can be easily fixed with patches; ideally the patch would allow toggling between 'on' and 'off', with default being 'off'.

Same, I always used arrow keys to move around campaign maps in Medieval 2 and Empire. Or in any strategy games that allowed arrow keys. I'd prefer working the fingers instead of my wrist. And edge-scrolling was either too sluggish or too fast, while most of the time I didn't mind the speed of arrow-key scrolling.

    @ OP

Definitely very frustrating. I have absolutely no idea why CA made this decision. What could it possibly benefit?

Yeah, to be honest that's probably the reason I started using the arrow keys (have to change the settings from WASD) rather than the mouse...But I'm used to that now and it actually seems more practical, try to get used to it and you'll me happier in the long run
