Default Praetorians vs Legio Claudia PF

Last night I built the Praetorian recruiting bldg (can't remember the name) in Rome. Previously, I'd recruited Legio VII Claudia Pia Fidelis in Rome, but the recruiting slots are now full of Praetorians and the Legio VII slots are gone.

So if I need to retrain cohorts from VII, can I still do that in Rome? If not where? Or did I just screw myself out of the VIIth legion?

I'm playing Rome one turn in 606 AUC, post Marian obviously.

    Thanks.
"With a population of around a million, Rome (in Claudius' time) was a vast city even by modern standards. It is worth pointing out that during the early Renaissance the population of Rome was no more than fifteen thousand-- living amid the ruins of a civilization that dwarfed their own. It was not until the nineteenth century that the population of Rome returned to the levels it had enjoyed under the Caesars. That is eloquent proof of the fact that human history is not a tale of steady progress towards greater knowledge and achievement." Simon Scarrow

Me thinks praetorian legion can only be recruited in Rome, but those normal legions also appear in other settlements so u didn't "screw" urself, but u can only focus in praetorian units in Rome for now on. I made the same mistake.

I hope my info is correct since It's so long since I've played Rome.

    Head of the Heavies, thanks.

Well, that just sucks; if I'd known when I built that thing that I was disabling the VIIth's depot I never would have done it.

Now I've got a nice named legion that can't take any damage because there's no place else to refit them.

Cannae & Capua, the nearest other cities which might stand in, need the unbelievable sum of 25,000 sesterces to fortify so it's going to be a long while before either of them come on line.

    This is really agro.

develop arretium and ariminium not capua and canae,
arretium and ariminium can build I think 5 or 6 names legions, capua and canae only 2

I'm making 100000 each round running in the money sink script every year and haven't even triggered the Imperial Reforms yet. 25k is a pretty small sum in my opinion...

Seems like you triggered the reforms a little early perhaps...

When I triggered them I was able to fortify all of Italy on the same turn, just take you time and build up your economy first!

Hmm, there are other settlements that can train it. I think one of teh Sicily provinces, but I might be wrong. In fact, go to the folder Important Stuff in your data folder in your RSII install. Go to AOR maps, and load up the most recent addition (its really big). That'll show you where you can recruit legions

The VII Claudia Pia Fidelis is available in Caralis, Aleria, Capua and the cities of Sicily.

Hey guys, thanks for all the very useful help.

I'm only generating about 30K each turn even tho most of my Italian cities are completely built out except for all the temples. I'm decommissioning republican units as the post Marians come on line to save money. Carthage has been destroyed, but otherwise I'm kind of holding static trying to build up money. May take Tangir to have a more defensible border w/ Gallica, but that's it for a while.

Thanks again, I was saving money to upgrade Capua and Cannae and now will do as above.
