About ten minutes ago I just finished a battle. It was Aosta Valley. Someone joined the lobby and I told them ''Max 8 units no fixed'' and he said ''?'' so I kicked them. He came back, and I repeated the rules and he said ''OK''. So I start the game, and my opponent has 15 units. I was REALLY pissed off especially considering it was a ranked game. I had one general staff, three fully upgraded old guard, one howitzer, one empress dragoon, and two fully upgraded chaussers. I decided that facing him on open ground would be impossible, so I withdrew to the mountains where there was only one way to attack(which was a giant slope to get up there) His early attacks were beaten back with little casualties on my part. His two horse artillery arrived and began firing(none of them hit) but then his two howitzers arrived and did alot of damage. Regardless, we repelled the rest of his attacks. I had 600 something troops against 1500 and I won. Is anyone else frustrated with non-english speakers not following the rules?(He said in the middle of the game he didn't speak English when I criticized his rule breaking)

no its not that they don't speak english, they PRETEND they don't; that way it isn't actually their fault they broke the rules, its the language barriers fault. tant pis

I have had trouble with people that cannot understand english. What irks me more is in game they plead the "no comprende" or just are just plain ignorant after breaking the rules.
And what are you doing on the dallas texas server if you "no comprende" anyways.

Re-think this line. If he doesn't speak English how would he understand you were criticizing his rule breaking?

I don't think he knew I was criticizing him, I think he just thought I was something something and wanted me to know he couldn't understand.

Well even if he spoke perfect English, you hosting a ranked game with a "max 8 units" rule should raise his suspicion about you not planning to follow it yourself to get easy rank points.
It's a stupid rule and silly to play a ranked games with it.

I agree with that, don't play ranked games that have rules that are "for fun" or with severe, possibly exploitive limitations e.g. no cav, x units only or on certain maps.. E.G. AUSTERLITZZZZZ

Exactly what I was about to say. I never trust anyone who puts a limit on numbers of units, especially in ranked games. Personally I reckon all rules are pointless except no rockets simply because they annoy the hell out of me.

well, coming from S.E Asia where I've met quite alot of people who don't speak English as their first language (i myself am trilingual) I'm less annoyed by non-english speakers but much more annoyed by people who dont say a word and break rules

Strangly enough, a lot of people claim they can't speak english and then magically learn how to speak by playing a game of Napoleon Total War.

    Example Chat:

    In lobby: Me:"The rules are . . . . . glhf"
    Them: "Me no speak engrish"

After they break the rules and lose anyway:
Them: "F you stupid noob im better than you"

Is it possible that strategy games rapidly accelerate the learning of English?
    This is a revolution!

You generally find most can speak enough English to play the game properly, the ones who don't are often p**sing about.
In my entire time playing NTW, maybe in 1 in 100 games do I face a player with no English typing ability, and even then you can't be sure.

The most punctilious game I have ever played was a 3v3 a couple of weeks back. Players displayed total respect, abided the rules, and were a pleasure to play with.

And not word was spoken in English.
