    Default ubuntu wine installation

Alright im guessing this ones gonna take a genius to figure it out but i thought id give it a shot. I recently switched my computer to ubuntu and installed wine to help play the game, it took me awhile but i was able to install both the first and second disks finally however when i try to play the game now it says "please insert correct cd/dvd rom". the first disk is clearly in and the computer can recognize it since it did install both disks already. Ive tried configuring wine for the cd/dvd rom and have mounted the cd/dvd rom. nothing works. the wine website says the game is definitely playable on wine and ive heard of a lot of accounts that it is so any help would be appreciated

This happens with Windows users as well. It's never been fully answered to my knowledge but it seem likely that it's either an issue with the optical drive or with the DRM program - SecuRom in this case.

Could you give us your DirectX log? Maybe we see something there that could shed some light. Also, do you have any software for burning DVD's on your system or disk emulation software? Good luck!

Don't worry about the DirectX log. After a very quick tour around the internet it looks to me that it is possible that your problem is more technical and extra-legal than we can answer here due to the ToS of this site. I'll say this - you seem to be missing a step in your installation. You might need an independently modified .exe which is something that's verboten to discuss on this site.

    Look here - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...ation&iId=4136

This is probably a better bet for you to get specific info on your problem. Trying to be as delicate as possible...

Now we can talk you through any problems you might have but you're touching on a sensitive subject here. Look at that site and if you can't find answers there then try us out. Who knows - we might be smart enough to answer them. Good luck!
