What's up with names
Modding names is one of the few things that I think I know pretty well. Or thought. I am mystified by some names problems in SS 6.4.
Whenever a new version of SS comes out, I check it out to fine tune it to my taste. One of the things I check first is names. Some that I don't like come up in the game and I say, "oh my, they changed all the names files again".
OK that has happened in SS 6.4. names like Éliás in England (should be Elias). And numbers for the popes (John XXI instead of just John for instance). As you might know, I made a minimod called Numberless Popes to remove numerals from Popes names, which was later included in Caralampio's Odds and Ends and supposedly is a part of SS. For me it's standard and I fix it in my game whenever I find they have reverted to older files.
The thing is, I have fixed everything in the names files (descr_strat, names, names.txt.strings, descr_names and descr_names_lookup). I have double checked everything. I have run them through Names Verifier. I have recreated names.txt.strings, and I have checked that it is as it should be by opening it with bin converter. I have deleted map.rwm and all bin files. Then I started a new campaign.
But Éliás keeps coming up, and my new pope is called Paschalis XXII!!!! How can this be? Supposedly, if the Pope has that name the game should crash immediately because it no longer exists in names, descr_names, names.txt.strings or names_lookup.
So my question is, might this have something to do with the SS setup? Perhaps the setup stores a certain set of files and uses them regardless of what you change?
PS: And how can he be Paschalis XXII? That name didn't even exist in the old CNP files. It was Paschalis II. Now that's odd.
