It would help if you posted the exact error message you're receiving. You're a little vague on that point.
More info is needed. Has this just started? Were you able to play before without the CTDs? Have you installed any mods recently? In essence - were you able to play the game before and just now it won't work?
Add some information to your post and someone here might be able to help. Good luck!

If what Gigantus said about unpacking works please let us know.
If not, PoleCat's suggestion of needing more info is correct as in posting your dxdiag.
it just says unspecified error nothing more it happens right after the battle loads then the screen goes black and the unspecified error comes up.
yes it just strted.
i have had the game for years no ctds.

Change any hardware, computers? Change any graphics settings?
Run disk cleanup and defrag lately?
Clean the dirt and dust out out of the case latey?
i have a new comoputer that rund it fine and now ctd's
disk clean up what is that
yes cleand
When did you install the game? How long did the computer "run fine" before the CTD's started? What I really want you to dial down - is this a new situation on a system that has worked for weeks/months/years or did the crashes start after a new installation.
As for clean up - look for the Disk Defragmenter in your Start bar/Accessories and give that a try. If your disk is heavily fragmented that will drive up load times and can cause the game to crash when the disk is forced to seek heavily. Let us know what your situation is please. Good luck!

ok so it ran good for like 3 mounths then i uninstalled it and now it does not work i have unitalled and reinstalled it but it will not work
Are they the original Medieval2 dvds? If so, are they scratched , dirty or anything?
OK, we're all rambling a bit here because the OP was more than fuzzy on the problem. Let's dial it in:
Symptom - The game crashes when entering battles. This happens on a system that previously worked flawlessly for three months before the user uninstalled the game. After reinstalling the game the crashes occur. The crashes happen during the battle load - evidenced by a black screen and dump to Desktop with a "An Unspecified Error" error message. No mods are reported. User claims case is clean. User doesn't know how to clean up or defrag HDD.
Is it possible it's a driver problem? Could an automatic Windows upgrade have installed newer drivers that he's not reporting?
@Pericles of Athens - Please post your DX log as irishron asked earlier. Here's how:
DxDiag is easy to run if you have any knowledge of Windows. Go to the "Start" button and in that menu choose "Run Program" option ("Run..." in Vista IIRC). In the pop-up field type "dxdiag" and press enter. This is the DirectX test program - let it finish the test. After the test is finished choose the button toward the bottom labeled "Save All Information..." and save it to your desktop. Next open up this forum and post the results by copying and pasting directly to the forum. Please don't post attachments as they take up more space and time - just copy and paste. Please post ALL info and if you can please wrap it in a spoiler tag to minimize page size.
Good luck!

this only happens when the Medieval II: Total War file is in the SEGA file when it is out side it runs fine but i want to install a mod and for this mod it needs to be in the SEGA file
What file is that? Is it the .exe?

Which mod is it?
the mod i want to get is Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod
no i mean it goes
program files/SEGA/M2TW
and the game only works if i cut out the
SEGA part and make it
program files/M2TW
Does the KGCM Mod work when you "cut out" the SEGA part of the install? Do you understand file paths in Windows?
Looking over your posts it seems to me that you're having trouble understanding the file structure of Windows. The makers of that mod have given a sample pathway for the installation of that mod but not necessarily the required path. You can install M2 wherever you like - their suggestion was merely an example.
The next question I have is pretty important - have you been trying to install the mod to the exact path as given in that thread?
Next question - is that where you have installed the vanilla M2?
At this point I think you're a little confused about how to install KGCM. But don't worry - we can help. But you will need to tell us where you have installed M2 to.
Mods - For reference he's added a thread asking for install help in the KGCM forum. Paths are detailed there. Good luck with this one!
