You might have had this entry in your CFG file:
bypass_to_strategy_save = 1
Due to some strange reason that disabled my intro movies.

No, that's not it. I unpacked descr_faction_movies.xml again and edited it line by line. It worked, but it's strange because I had done exactly the same with the old file.
