    Default Alienware Laptop

I'm certain about getting a £1700 Alienware M11x soon (despite everyone saying they're overpriced), that is
unless the specifications I'm paying for is not enough, can I get a guess at the best game these specs can
play high graphics at to give me a opinion of its worth in a straight forward sense

    Intel® Core i7 640UM 4MB Cache, 2.66GHz max
    8192MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM
    1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M
500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive

I don't need advice about other possibilities of laptops to get, I've looked at many peoples opinions & looked at
a large variety of other solutions but I'm quite set on this laptop. If this doesn't work then I'll just have to settle
for a desktop which I'd prefer not to do..

1700 Euros = $2,325 USD in a direct currency conversion however here in the US that laptop sells for $1,478 with those exact specifications, you have to run through the customization list to get to that price but that's what it cost to match your specs.

So lol for wasting your money. A $900 desktop PC can outperform that little guy.

I bought an Alienware laptop a number of years ago and was extremely disappointed with their build quality and the customer service was horrible. The time it took for them to fix issues was absolutely ridiculous.

I would honestly never wish an Alienware purchase on my worst enemy.

I own an ASUS notebook now and absolutely love their customer service (it does help I live near their San Francisco warehouse though).

But ASUS notebooks are MUCH more reasonably priced than Alienware and the customer service is 100x better.

Was it the time that they still shipped Clevo/Sager builds?

Btw do check the Clevo/Sager NP8150, its a beast and dont weight a ton! ''only'' 3kg, it is indeed lighter than my sisters lenovo.

    Yup that was exactly it!

Clevo mobo that I could have gotten way cheaper going with Sager during the P4 days right before all the dual cores came out. Geez I hated that laptop =D

the consensus is that you should never buy directly from sager, they have the worst support possible, so people go and buy CHEAPER from retailers, and let them deal with Sager.

But the problem from that time was the serious heating issues, this is not a problem anymore. People with the 8870cu could rise the TDP from the i7 940xm from the 55W to 75W, that is how good the cooling is. The Oc from those machines were never matched by the AW M17x R2.

And this continuous with the NP8150 and the better oc capable NP8170.

I seriously find the m11x a poor choice.

The build quality is not up to AW standards, there is a hinge recall due to it cracking and breaking. The chassis is thick, and it has the same size as a 13'' laptop. And the screen is terrible.

The cpu is too poor for playing any tw games. it wont be running always at 2.66ghz which is the limit of turbo boost, not the base frequency.

You can find tons of other laptops that are better than this one, even at the same 13'' size.

I just don't get the point of this thread when you already stated that nothing anyone says is going to make you choose a different laptop.

And BTW I got a warning from a mod once for using the word "shush" as he said it is the same as telling someone to shut up and that is bad in a mod's opinion so you might want to refrain from that. Just FYI.

I set my fixed default at a Alienware laptop, it has all the best standards of a 11' laptop I can find,
just that my brother's laptop which only cost £600 with most certainly no better specifications
can work Napoleon Total War at medium graphics without lag, so I thought the Alienware must be easily able
    to supersede that.

If you are set on a laptop then, I would advise you wait till Intel fixes the "sandy bridge" cpu's problem. In that way you will have on your laptop a cpu which gives similar performance to the desktop cpu's. As for graphic cards you would be better if you found a laptop with GTX 400m or 500m series GPU from nvidia. Smth like this for example kills the overpriced alienware laptop and it's price is almost the same.

Just to shut up some of you my I5 Quad in my laptop can run shogun 2 on max so just be quite if you don't own a laptop don't speak you look daft .

Turbo boost does not improve anything IMO at least on the MSIGX660R.

Ok look, if you're set on buying Alienware at LEAST don't get the ones with GT335M. Those cards drive me up the wall from irritation. Get a mobility Radeon 5870 crossfire or better. the CPU is garbage, and I'm saying this with all the love in the world. You're not gonna be getting good frame rates with RTW on that.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220995

This laptop will absolutely destroy your alienware in every and any way. Any benchmark, hell it even looks better if you judge by which one's more badass/sleeker.

This is the laptop that I use.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152211

Which will destroy the alienware as well. GTX460M is comparable to a 5850, and a 5870 is an absolute beast when it comes to brute power. Still, the ASUS laptop sports a CPU that is far beyond my laptop and your alienware. Before you buy it, please explore other options. ASUS and MSI don't put a lot of bloatware on their machines, thank God.
