Editing descr_strat.txt with notepad still possible in 6.4? Geomod?

I've been trying to edit the descr_strat.txt file for the early campaign using notepad as I have done in the past with SS6.2.

I go to campaign/early/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign to make my changes to the early campaign. I then make the changes I want to make to the desc_strat.txt file using notepad.

However, the game doesn't load. It starts to load and then reverts back to the options menu.

I see info at the top of the descr_strat.txt file about something called Geomod.

Can I still modify the descr_strat.txt file using notepad, or do I have to now use this Geomod thing?

Or are there any other changes in these regards in 6.4, or I am simply doing something wrong in my editing of the file?

Yes you can still edit the strat file fine in notepad. Sounds like you've just edited the file wrong. Check the system.log for any relevant error messages.
