    Default Full Screen Difficulties

    Hey guys,

I recently installed MTW2 on my div4 laptop when I upgraded to windows 7. Now when I launch MTW2 the game does not take up the screen, it leaves two black vertical bars on each side of the screen and has smushed the game screen between them. Any ideas how to fix this? I already tried running it in compatibility mode and modifying the screen resolution didn't work either.

Check to see if windowed mode is checked in the Options screen or in medieval2.preferences.cfg?

Thanks for the suggestion, however it's running in "normal" mode as per default. I tried adjusting it to full screen and then back, with no result. Any other possibilities out there ?

The problem is not that the screen itself is not taking up the monitor, but that the game itself is not filling the entire borders (with the smush effect on both vertical sides of the screen).

I think it must be the "widescreen" option. Try tinkering with it.

Hm, I figured it must be the widescreen setting as well, but I tried tinkering with it both on and off with no resulting change. Do you think this may have been effected by a problem with installation? Should I re-install?

    I would think not.

Post the dxdiag of your laptop.

    I see your problem.
    Code:
    Dedicated Memory: 64 MB
CA specs say 128mb minimum dedicated graphics memory. The series 4 graphics chip is giving you enough for that much screen but not enough to fill it.

You try to update the chipset at www.intel.com and try 1024 x 768 resolution if your laptop supports it.

Excellent suggestion Irish, but I've been operating the game with only 64 MB of dedicated memory for years now without having this issue. Nevertheless, I updated my drivers and applied the 1024x768 resolution to no effect. I really appreciate you guys brainstorming with me about this anomaly.

I am inclined to agree that the issue lies within a faulty installation, because I have noticed that the changes I make to my settings are not being saved when I exit the program and jump back in. I will reinstall and report back.

Check to make sure the "preferences.cfg" file isn't set to read only. Good luck!

Set the preferences.txt to read-only after editing or the game will overwrite it.

Frustration! I have reinstalled and the problem persists. I am now able to save my settings, but I did not install as widescreen nor is it selected in the options menu. I am out of ideas!

It's your computer, not the game.

Ya I know it's the comp because the game has worked previously, I just don't know what to change in order to fix the problem.

Being a laptop you can't change much unless you can change the video setting in your BIOS.

Being HP, odds are it's locked.

There are laptops that can play full screen but you have to do your own shopping with the game's specs in hand.

A lady game player here in the forums got an HP for Christmas that will play the game but it was special ordered with Kingdoms mods in mind while in college.

Have tried installing the DirectX 9.0c drivers? DX 11 is a bit too new for this old game....
