    Hey everyone!

I need some information on the French army circa 1799. I'll just say its for an upcoming mod that will follow Napoleon from the coup d'etat on the 18 Brumaire all the way through till 1814.

I have a fairly strong understanding of the make-up of the French army and the guards, but no idea how the 1805 army would differ from the 1799 army.

I'm looking for any information: uniforms, generals, stories, subjective content, etc... I just really want to get a complete view of the French army at that time.

    Books, sites, copy pasted information.

    Thanks guys!

As to books suggest you look at:
Digby-Smith "Napoleon's Regiments Battle Histories of the Regiments of the French Army, 1792-1815" as it has the derivation of all the Empire regiments which originated from revolutionary units.
Appendix A sets out the Demi-Brigades raised entirely from volunteer units.
Brent Nosworthy "Battle tactics of Napoleon & His Enemies" It has a useful section looking at the revolutonary period & early napoleonic.
George Nafziger "Imperial Bayonets" has a section looking at French revolutionary tactics, but do not expect an easy read due to the author's style
John R. Elting "Swords Around A Throne" bit of a bible on the development of the French Army.

Would the revolutionary uniforms and organization be correct for the most part?

Yes as far as I can tell - some other very useful websites (also taken from the thread cited earlier) - though the books quoted only contain black and white illustrations:

http://www.darnault-mil.com/Galerie/index_galerie.htm Full access to Funcken’s volumes on the uniforms of France’s Revolutionary Armies & all sides in the Napoleonic Wars.
http://www.1789-1815.com/index.html French site by Bernard Coppens. Some of his drawings here freely available.

    Other useful books:
The Encyclopedia of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars: A Political, Social, and Military History. Fremont-Barnes, Gregory, ed. Santa Barbara, CA: ABC-Clio, 2007. 3 vols. 1284 pages. ISBN# 1851096469. ISBN-13# 9781851096466.
More than ninety contributors from Britain , France , Germany , Austria , Italy , Russia , the United States and elsewhere were assembled to produce the individual entries. The distinguished international list of contributors include Melanie Byrd, Ian Castle, Malcolm Crook, Charles Esdaile, Ian Fletcher, Alan Forrest, John G. Gallagher, Philippe Girard, Alexander Grab, Peter Hofschroër, David Hollins, J. David Markham, Alexander Mikaberidze, among others.
Griffith, Paddy. The Art of War of Revolutionary France 1789-1802. London: Greenhill, 1998. 320 pages. ISBN 1-85367-335-8. Gives a great overview of the historical and military theatres of the time. It is also very much about the political and social forces that were so critical between 1789 and 1802. The book has over 300 pages, including 16 pages of illustrations, an index, and numerous tables and figures, maps, and personal comments by the author. The topics of the chapters include: the French Revolution, the politics of the time, the generals and men in the ranks, organization of the army and the navy, the weapons and tactics used, and the various battles and wars that marked the period. A good job comparing the Revolutionary battles with those of the Napoleonic era.

    Also don't forget:

http://www.cgsc.edu/carl/nafziger/index.asp George Nafziger's orders of battle from the 1600s to 1945. Nafziger graciously donated his entire collection on his retirement to the US Army Command & General Staff College where every OB file resides as a free download.

Also very useful is the 5 volume 1850s masterpiece by M. Adrien Pascal entitled "Histoire de l'Armee et tous les Regiments depuis les temps de la Monarchie Francais jusqu'a nos temps". Volumes 3 & 4 cover the Revolutionary & Napoleonic periods. The Annexes in particular are a real mine of info.

    Hi,
To think of it seems the whole package.
But wait i have got it.

Have a gawk at the general potraits of NTW. Seems a bit inaccurate dont you think???

Heres the solution, The attachment is Napoleon and his Marshals, plus a Russian general or two.

    Hope this will be helpful.
