RTR launches properly once, then won't.

OK, so i've been away from RTR for awhile. I have a new system with Win7. I installed RTW. I then patched it to 1.3 and then to 1.5 I then installed RTR 1.9 Platinum. I launched it, i got the splash screen, i watched the intro, i even got to the point of being able to start a battle. I set up a few graphics options. All seemed good.

I was now set to convince a friend of mine to install it himself so we could do some online battles in RTR. He is all game for it.

But now when i try to launch, i can't get the game to run. I see the splash screen, and then it boots me back to windows. The process is still running. If i try to get back into the game, i see a black screen, and i hear the first note of the intro music, but then it boots me back to windows again. I'm now stuck in this loop.

Under task manager, i see two processes, RomeTW.exe and ~e5.0001 *32 (description is cleanup). Stopping either of those processes kills the other. I can then restart RTR but then i just see the splash screen, i'm booted to windows, and i'm back where i started.

So what's going on here? I've tried running in XP compatibility mode but it has no effect. I mean, it ran immediately after i first installed it, so i'm sure i did everything properly. It just won't come back now.

I really want to get back into RTR. What's going on? Hope someone can help! Thanks!

Hmm... i think i've found the problem...

It's not RTR, it's Firefox. I've noticed several quirks with Firefox under Win7. When i close out Firefox, RTR starts up fine. Otherwise, it has this issue where it can't stay in the game- minimizing Firefox seems to push the focus back to Firefox, thus out of the game.

Anyways, weirdness. But i think i've got a solution anyways.

This is a problem I had as well. I've no idea what the root cause it, but the solution is indeed to close firefox.
