    Default Rhun Help

    Running FROME, I've beaten game with Dale, Ered-Luin, and Gondor. Decided I would take a turn as Rhun, seeing as I already beat them down with Dale--but its seemingly impossible. By turn 11 I'm getting hit with armies from Dale with Dale Swordsmen, Longbowmen, and Barding Hird (or whatever it is). I managed to survive an onslaught at Uldonavon by such troops, just to get slammed with another stack and a half of soldiers ~3 turns later, before I even had my troops back at full strength in their entirety. Am I just bad, or missing something obvious, or is game screwing with me? Pretty sure AI can't get Barding Hird with basic towns I'm making plenty of cash for now myself, but I can't seem to keep up with the ridiculous number of troops being thrown at me.

    maybe you accidently activated the garrison script? t gives the AI alot of good troops if you go in there land with an army. and what difficulty are you on?

    Dr.Sorros maybe you accidently clicked the X button at the start when it asks if you want to remove barracks event or not. Unfortunately Rhûn starts with no big city or anything so unless you have Uldonovan you really wouldn't know the difference.

    I've tried it at various difficulties, and I'm only having this problem with Rhun--every other faction I've started but abandoned, or beaten I haven't had these problems. I never even fought Dale up to this point, didn't mess with garrison script, nada. Just randomly got hit with a ridiculous number of competent soldiers literally two turns after I seize Uldonovan, I'm talking turn 11. Not sure what would bring this about. I've also tried playing them several times with new campaigns, still getting issue even on easy/easy.

    Sounds like the remnants of the stack which is scripted to spawn & take Araw for Dale when it's AI controlled.

    Just use 2 or 3 family members in your army. The Rhunic Bodyguards are very powerful and you should be able to win crushing victories with them.

    All in all, the bodyguards of any faction is quite powerful. I played Dwarf, and those guys breed like bunnies even if you don't adopt any. Suddenly I had tons of generals when their sons came of age. I had 12 in one stack once, and a full stack of OoMM's attacked me with good units and I sent them packing. I'm going to edit the files so I can only have 3 family members per couple.

    But yeah, as Rhùn, use family early on. Great thing about generals is they regenerate without needing to go to retrain at a settlement. And three generals on heavy horse just charging in for the shock damage then promptly pulling back and going for another can take out a large force on their own even. Just be a bit careful with spears

    Weird, I had 2 campaigns, one back in 1.2 and one in 1.4 where I defeated Dale and the Dwarves by turn 120. I never have problems with Dale.

    Just have Clansmen or weak infantry hold the enemy troops at bay, harass cavalry with Variag Riders, and then get your generals and flank when the enemy is stuck in combat. Easy, and also, have a ballista handy against the garrison scripts

    Could be that Dale got attacked on another front, the garnison script kicked in and then they moved their forces towards you instead?

    Since we are not told about the diplomatic situation I thought Dale could be in war with Mordor in the southwest or even silvan elves in the west, OotMM could have had a break and taken land far east and then become an enemy and so on.
    That would been another front.

    Seems unlikely though. The only relly viable other front I see developing that early would be mordor from Dol Guldor but I thought that this tended to be annihilated early? I don't know as I haven't played a campaign that far east yet.

    True, re-read the original post, hadn't considered that he wrote "3 turns later" (turn 15 then), thought it was longer space of time

    Thanks for the advice everyone. I suppose I'll try it, start a campaign from scratch. I'm just surprised, never had this problem before in any other campaigns.

    I'm at turn 41 and I have taken Uldonovan, Tirith Thoron, Araw, Rhovanost, Dorwinion and Kugavod (losing kugavod to a stack of pissed off dwarves tho) and I'm capturing Khand with 6 balcoth tribesmen vs 4 totally depraved and starved rebel units.

    Balcoth tribesmen + variag riders are just too OP, also like others have suggested rally your generals in one stack. I've got My heir at Uldonovan and my King at Dorwinion with my Second son (Bori) amassing a force at Rhomen to retake Kugavod (mostly consiting of clan hunters, variag riders and clansmen).

    Basically use your good family members to defend important places and then put all other generals in a stack to go to Rhovanost and Araw.

    P.S. I hate damn TGAS that mean I have to print screen, enter the tga, print screen again, copy it into paint, then crop it which results in bad image quality and low resolution.

    Seriously hope shogun 2 doesn't use dumb the dumb tga extension.

    From my experience with custom battles, Dale hasa pretty big advantage over rhun, in my opinion its because rhunic cavalryis high on the defense but not so much on the attack, which is a disadvantage when it has 3-4 strong dale infantry poking it at once. Even playing against vh/vh with my guys as dale, I always beatdown rhun

    when playing ruhn i figured out the only units that are actually worth anything are the general body guards, so i just recruited A LOT of skirmishers and swordsmen as a meat shield and tried to put ever general i have in the army, this army...was golorius on open plains i would just send in the skirmishers to inflict as much as damage as they can on spear men and heavy units and have the swordsmen meat shield everyone else then 7 units of general boy guards charge from behind making every dale soldier flee in terror.

    hit them before they siege you or else you wont have a hope of beating them.

    if they siege you deploy your units like this

    ........gg.......
    ....T........T...
    ........T.........

    g=gate
    ...=empty space
    T=balchot tribesmen on guard mode. they will massacre anyone brave enough to come through the gates.

    Tribesmen are Rhun's strength... at least in the early game. Just spam them. I find them a bit overpowered... at least against dwarves. The little ones stand no chance against this armor piercing war machine.

    Well I lost Uldor at Rhovanost being surprise sieged by an army of Mirkwood Elves. I lost Araw and with it my 3 generals (only 3), my heir retreated to Dorwinion where the Dwarves from Kugavod came to siege me, I sallied out and beat them then King Bain came with a fullstack and killed both my heir and leader making Bori the faction leader and the heir became someone who married my daughter. Now I have only one heir and one leader no generals and I'm waiting for the sons of the family to grow up and take general status so I can do more.

    Basically I lost (in order) Kugavod, Araw (3 generals), Rhovanost (Uldor) and Dorwinion (Borthand+Margoz).

    I'm now in the pooper. Fighting the Dwarves and Dale with the elves having taken Rhovanost. I called an invasion on Dale hoping to alleviate some pressure but the campaign is actually better than I assumed.

    Sorry for hijacking the thread :p
