Anyone else think the Balrog unit should be just one super Balrog? I reckon it should rebel too since in the film it scared off all the goblins too, it doesn't look like its allied to anyone

You can't do that in the campaign (engine restrictions). Only in custom battle is 1 unit possible.
I believe that they found out that if you will recruit those units in campaign they will appear as single unit but when they are scripted to appear (like Barlog) it's impossible to them be single units.
Thought, I don't know if this will ever lead something but maybe someday![]()
there would be a problem because people play on different unit sizes. it's not the same if you have 1 vs 60 or 1 vs 150. but it should be possible to have 1 balrog on lowest unit size.
In LOTR mode made for RTW there was a script whick kills all units in battalion except one,so there were single man units, mostly herous so I think is possible in Medieval II engine, but I am not able to do so,so just talk...
Why not make the Balrog into a general with troll-bodyguards?
Yes, but you could really only change hit points with traits as far as I know. He would also need to be his own faction, as all generals of one faction must have the same size.
That would be pretty cool. "Balrog comes down from the mountains and kicks everyones butt all on his own... just hope no wizards show up"
Well, I don't think there should necessary be just one balrog in the unit... There was 15 of them according to lore (although i didn't check this recently so i could be wrong). Gothmog was the most powerful but he was killed during fall of Gondolin by Echtellion, the other was killed by Glorfindel during the same battle. Some were destroyed during the last war of Valars an Morgoth but it says in Silmarillion
that OTHERS fled to the deep places of the world...
so, if they would be rebels there wouldn't be a problem if there was 4 of them if you're playing on huge unit settings... it could easily be theres even more then 4 left.![]()
I'm pretty sure that there were hundreds back in the day but they were a lot weaker but I don't think that this was ever properly explained by Tolkien (may he R.I.P.). I believe that in the War of the Ring though that there were 7 left. However they are extremely powerful, at least as powerful as dragons. So having Any more than one in a unit, that is if you are going by lore and there are no engine restrictions to stop you from lowering the number or to blame it on, would be a bit ridiculous. However considering the engine limitations and everything I think that this is pretty good how it is. Perhaps there will one day be a LOTR mod on Shogun and then we can have hero units. However imho it would take at least 3 years for one to get to this level and frankly kk is, i think, one of the best modders and so even on Shogun (if it is a better engine which for moddability it could quite possibly not be) a new lotr mod might not measure up. All I know is that I'm pretty damn happy with what KK and the rest of the community does.
And sorry about the rant.
I think with all the complications, I would rather the Balrog wasnt in the game if I had a choice. It would be better to omit the Balrog than have to put a whole unit of them on the field, depends how you feel about lore I suppose
As stated in the other Balrog thread by myself, if the Rog were a single super unit, Gandalf would have to be upgraded to match.
The engine is too limiting here, so better to leave the Rog out sadly![]()
The Balrog could be the unit officer and the unit 'men' could be -orcs or something
