    Default Computer anomaly

Long story short this is what happened. I was surfing youtube and decided to plug my Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 and listen to some music, but as soon as the USB on the headphone wire touched the USB port on my PC, it restarted! Does anyone know why this is happening?

Oh and btw, the headphones are near my TV if that helps.

No, I'm running W7 now, and as I said, I didn't even plug them in, I just touched it and BAM! Restarted.

That's happened to me too a couple of times, and between cases. My guess is it shorts the restart switch, which tricks the computer into thinking you pushed the button.

hi you could Check the USB port to see if its broken, pins showing and bent.

    if it is

This might cause a feed back. (could result in a faulty MB)

If it is broken, dont use it again!

sounds like a fault causing an electrical surge which is reacting with either your power supply or your board.

if your rig is expensive rather get a new usb connector or peripheral not worth losing a rig for 10c worth of faulty usb......

It could be a driver issue\conflict also, plug in some other USB device to know that's not the issue.

It could be a driver issue but it definitely sounds like a surge to me. I used to have an old system that would reboot if the speaker power was flipped (either on or off). Same principle....
